SHR # 2410 :: RLRx: The Protein Megalin May More Important Than SHBG When It Comes To Sex Steroid Uptake By Tissue

Share

Ronnie Milo

The medical orthodoxy has promoted the idea that sex steroids bound to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) are biologically inactive. Free, unbound hormones are though to have biological significance. Some evidence that hormones like testosterone, bound ti SHBG, appear to have effects on tissue. Now the mechanism responsible for bound sex hormones to produce biological activity in a variety of tissue has been identified. Lrp2 also known as Magalin may actually flip the free-androgen theory on its head and show that the medical orthodoxy has had it exactly opposite of the way it really works! AND Lrp2 has these same effects on vitamin D3 and A and may be at the root of why some people don't see the benefits of supplementation.

SHR # 2410 :: RLRx: The Protein Megalin May More Important Than SHBG When It Comes To Sex Steroid Uptake By Tissue

Show Notes:

[4:53] Dr. Scott Stevenson dispelled the “free-androgen theory.”

  • SHBG acts as a chaperone for testosterone.
  • There is a protein that makes bound androgens active in tissue: magalin.
  • Without magalin, bound androgens cannot get into tissue for transcription.

[7:50] The role of DHT, megalin, and LRP-2.

  • LRP-2 only works on bound sex steroids.

[11:18] Statins down regulate magalin production.

  • Magalin is an LDL.
  • Reduction in magalin could lead to kidney/liver damage.
  • Lowering fat and increasing glucose intake raises LDL and hyperoxidizes it.

[17:10] Beta-alanine to reduce AGE spots.

[18:22] It may be advantageous to have higher LDL.

  • This allows for more magalin to be produced.
  • The Hawaii study: the subjects with the highest cholesterol levels were still alive at the end of the study. The subjects with the lowest cholesterol levels died.
  • As you age, higher cholesterol levels may be beneficial.

[26:30] SHBG bound sex hormones are biologically active, and magalin is critical for this.

[29:30] Melanotan II and magalin production.

  • MII shuts down inflammation and helps the body reabsorb arterial plaque.

[30:40] 20:1 test to SHBG ratio.

[32:52] How to raise SHBG.

  • Aromatizing androgen.
  • Carl is not a fan of daily MTOR inhibitors such as metformin, berberine, resveratrol, etc.
  • But, resveratrol 2x/week can raise SHBG.
  • Sleep apnea will lower SHBG.
  • Other factors that will lower SHBG include insulin resistance, agromalia, and hypothyroidism

[37:00] Low DHEA-s

  • What is LH/FSH doing?
  • What about stress levels?
  • Correlation between high insulin and DHEA.
  • Estradiol should not be curshed in man.
  • CRP and fasting glucose should be checked.

[41:37] ATD is an aromatase inhibitor from way back.

  • Crushed estradiol in men.

[42:49] Why no daily berberine or resveratrol?

  • If you are sick or have high blood sugar, you can use these as a rescue mechanism to mitigate damage.
  • It suppresses MTOR. You don’t want to do this around the clock.
