Repairing A Leaky Gut
with guest, Wade Lightheart
Carl Lanore:
Leaky gut has been associated with just about every type of autoimmune disorder. Leaky gut allows undigested bad actors to find their way into the bloodstream where the immune system goes, Hey, those aren't supposed to be here. Let's go after them. While the bad actors are being attacked by your immune system, it's also attacking important tissue. It's pretty well understood from an ultra simplistic standpoint that this is what auto-immunity is, and it all starts with the leaky gut and nothing starts to change until you fix your gut.Fixing the gut has to be the first step to any type of recovery and healing.
Wade Lightheart: [00:02:33]
Before you get to an auto-immune disease, everybody is in kind of a certain state of attack because of the way our diets have changed. Over the last 80 years, particularly since the advent of monoculture farming factory farming, the change in food, production and distribution, as well as genetic modification herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and food dyes, all these things that are now common to the diet. Although possibly preserving the production capacity or saving the product on the shelf or whatever these things aren't recognizable by our bodies. Our digestive system has evolved over millions of years to recognize foods that are natural to our environment. And we've made a variety of adaptive changes as a species.
Going back in time, one of the biggest shifts was when we went from a Hunter gatherer society to an agricultural society. There's a whole lot of debate about what transpired but what we can say for sure regardless of the historical aspects, is that over the last 80 years, we've become evolutionary challenged.
This whole chemicalization of society has created a variety of problems. Things like heavy metals that are found in many fish products, the chemical components in grains, like Roundup, for example, which is a food genetic modification which alters various proteins.
We have tomatoes with insect DNA inside it to make it look good. Maybe it makes your tomato look good. Maybe it makes it more resistant to pests, but when it gets inside your body, our ability to break down and digest that food is compromised. Some of our good bacteria start to die off and they live in this little mucosa lining inside your intestinal track. It’s called the biofilm and this biofilm is important because it houses various species of bacteria, with in which we live in a symbiotic relationship. They help us break down the final round of food. With digestion you have enzymes and hydrochloric acid and then the probiotics finished the job. If we didn't have these probiotics in our body, we would die. But what happens is this film starts to break down to chemicalization.
Imagine a mesh and you're straining spaghetti. Your gut is on a more microscopic level, but it's got this same permeability. We start getting tears in this and then, and these undigested or unrecognized or genetically modified or chemical based agents slip in through the intestinal barrier.
Our bodies have a need to have some sort of reaction/ immune system response to this. That's okay in a short term, maybe once every now and then we can handle it, but because our food supply has been changed so radically we start developing chronic inflammatory based conditions.
Dr. Leo gallery, who is from the foundation of integrative medicine, says, well, how do you know you have leaky gut? Because that's really what people want to know. If you have things like chronic diarrhea, constipation, gas, or bloating, and nutritional deficiencies. If you find that you get every cold, maybe poor immune response. If you have a lot of brain fog, when you wake up in the morning, you need like a giant cup of coffee to get going, or you suffer from headaches or memory loss, excessive fatigue, skin rashes, cravings for sugar, arthritis or joint pain because you're building up uric acid crystals in your joints.
Depression anxiety, add ADHD, autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and celiac disease, or Crohn' are more advanced and progressive stages often over decades so basically you've just been fighting the tide for years and years.
Degenerative diseases associated with aging are degenerative diseases associated with leaky gut and a poor diet.
Carl Lanore:
Antibiotics seem to contribute to changing the terrain, but there are people out there who will say, well I really haven't taken a lot of antibiotics. I want to point out that genetically modified foods in, and of themselves may not be the problem, but they are when they're modified to accept thousands and thousands of pounds of herbicides. Herbicides are anti-microbial. The difference between an antibiotic and an anti-microbial is the dose and the duration. An antibiotic is just a larger dose.
If you consume an anti-microbial day in and day out all of a sudden the dose and duration numbers change. Glyphosate is an anti-microbial and it's so strong that there's a patent that was filed by Monsanto to combine amoxicillin and glyphosate as a human antibiotic. Think about that for a second.
So even if you haven't been exposed to antibiotics as a child, if you're eating conventionally grown foods, especially foods that have been modified to accept glyphosate, you are eating daily, small amounts of antibiotics. In fact, there's a study showing that genetically modified foods that are sprayed with glyphosate cause the microbes to get stronger. Glyphosate is being tied to antibiotic resistant diseases. The sprays aren't killing the pests anymore and you're consuming them!-
Carl Lanore: [00:14:35]
There are a lot of doctors who don't believe leaky gut exists, who say there’s no such thing as leaky gut.
Wade Lightheart: [00:15:53]
Yeah, it's unfortunate that people in positions of authority are overwhelmed with conflicting information and trying to keep up, not only within their fields, but also with the amount of information and paperwork that they have to do with their regulatory bodies. I think what happens is they kind of shut down, even medical people, they're humans.
This is a major issue that may be contributing to all the challenges around auto immunity, which seems to be plaguing the population, particularly in an industrialized countries, which are using all of these components and chemicals and agents that we haven't used traditionally throughout.
Maybe we'll solve this in a thousand or 10,000 years, but in the short term, it's not going to happen. So we have to look at ways to do that. That's one of the reasons we have a research team in Bosnia at a university who are experts in biofilm. We run a variety of tests so that we don't have to trust external and authorities or competing double blind studies.
We actually just look at people and look at the lining and run tests to find out first had because who has time to wait 20 years or take a bunch of antibiotics or go running around and fight with people who are telling you that the symptoms you're feeling aren't real.
Carl Lanore: [00:17:50]
So let, let's talk about the product that you are introducing that speaks to this. I happen to know very well about one of these ingredients and it's very expensive. I said to you, this has to be a very expensive product to produce, and you replied to me, all of our products are expensive to produce.
Wade Lightheart:
I've been in the industry for 25 years, the best supplements are generally created by companies and by individuals who are scratching a niche and had to dive deep. They're building their product to solve a particular problem not to make margins.
Margin based products are usually knockoff products based on someone on a mission who figured out a solution to a particular issue. Some research supports it. Then a bunch of companies produce a “me-too” product, which is based on the lowest quality components microscopic dosages of what might be effective.
There's nothing more expensive than a product that doesn't work.
I ran into all my digestive issues as a former bodybuilding guy. That's what got me into this space. I had to fix my own digestion issues. Then I discovered there's a lot of people that have digestion issues and that's why we we've grown our company Bioptimizers, because it is the foundation of your health. It starts in your gut. Hippocrates knew this 2000 years ago, and today that's never been more real.
[00:20:26] Igy max, is a patented product made out of egg yolks. What the egg yolk actually forms to if you were to develop it, the chicken or any embryotic is the internal organs and digestive systems and operational organs for that being to exist. Igy max seems to be one of the key elements critical in the proper formation of this mucoid lining that allows the bacteria to grow so that we can exist in a symbiotic relationship as we mature into full adults. They've isolated that, and it's a great immunoglobulin.
We’ve put this to the test with our Bosnian teams and they're like, wow, we've never seen anything like it. These are experts and PhDs in microbiome. It just fixes the gut lining which is awesome. People feel the relief.
Wade Lightheart: [00:23:29]
We’ve added to the formula with the Igy max are several different probiotics. Learn more at bioptimizers.com
If you have one of these conditions within a couple of days, you're going to see improvements.
Carl Lanore: [00:29:06]
We have a couple of questions.
The first one comes from Robert Thompson. He says, how does asymptomatic diverse diverticulitis play into leaky gut?
This is an interesting question because a lot more people have diverticulitis and don't know it because there are no symptoms. In the diverticulum portion of the intestines, what happens is you end up with a pouch that shouldn't be there. So as stuff is going through the corridor, some stuff gets pushed into the pouch and just hangs out there.
Carl Lanore:
And people who have diverticulitis as a rule ended up someday with that pouch bursting being rushed to the hospital potentially dying from sepsis. It’s very serious having undiagnosed diverticulitis. I have to believe that that pouch has the mucosal barrier gone otherwise it wouldn't have become a pouch in the first place. What do you think?
Wade Lightheart: [00:30:06]
That's exactly true. What you're dealing with is usually undigested food. What's interesting is you see this particularly, in people who are sensitive to seeds. This is not proven but the seeds of plants that have been grown on these highly. Chemicalized fields and have been genetically modified. Some people can't break those down so that seed sits in your gut. If you notice when you eat any kind of seeds, they are coming out in your stool, my suggestion is stop eating all that stuff because you're going to run into problems. It's going to create a permeability. Then you've got a pouch there.
It will start pushing on your nervous system Similar to acupuncture, your intestinal track has sections which are related to different parts of your body. You'll run into challenges with your heart or challenges with your liver or disruptions in your brain function, depending on where these pouches start to grow.
The other thing to avoid if you have diverticulitis pouches is nuts.
Carl Lanore:
I'm going to say that leaky gut guardian is going to be one of the most successful products, if not the most successful product that you have ever produced, because there are a lot of people out there who are suffering from hard to diagnose disorders that once they get their guts fixed, these disorders are going to start to go away. And if the product works and I know it does, they're going to notice changes quickly in a couple of weeks. And you know, part of the problem with fighting a disorder is it takes decades for the symptoms to show up.
It takes decades for the disorder to get better. But when you don't notice anything new you lose faith and you hop to something else. I predict that people are going to start using this product, they're going to notice changes and are going to stick with it. And a year or two from now, those symptoms are going to be gone.
Wade Lightheart: [00:39:17]
One of the reasons why we're starting to see such a cult, like following around intermittent fasting or extended fasting is because it's providing a bit of time for the body to start repairing its intestinal lining. And I believe that this is an adaptive response that intelligent.
Humans are using it to mitigate, to offset the unrelenting result of assault on our digestive system from all the chemicals of society. I have been blessed to have a virtually cult-like following on this product. People have been suffering from diarrhea and IBS and inflammatory bowel conditions of all sorts swear by this.
It just makes me feel good. We read these testimonials on our Monday meetings with the whole team. I love the supplement industry. I love the health industry.
As a little side note, for people who are really compromised, I'm suggesting that you do fasting one day a week. However, during the day of fasting, take multiple doses of gut guardian every few hours. You won’t get the same benefits of the fast, but I do believe this is completely anecdotal. People are reporting improvements in their symptoms, much faster if they do this. Even a partial day fasting taking a scoop every couple of hours for the day
Carl Lanore: [00:42:48]
I don't think it would negate the fast because we know that fasting, mimicking diets, do the same thing as fasting as long as you stay at 600 calories or less a day, give you all the benefits of fasting.
