Some of the questions answered:

Jerry Byers
Where do you come down on anti-oxidants? Like do you take them, which ones and how can you tell if they’re working?

Dean Douglas
What are your thoughts on myostatin inhibitors? I thought Biotest had one years ago that was a seaweed extract. Did it really bind myostatin? If it didn’t, does epicatechin??

Larry Henning
I’m a big guy (300lbs) and carrying a bit more bodyfat than I care to at the moment. I’m only 22, but really want to get into calesthetics. How do I do this, given I’m a natural endomorph and realistically – will
never weigh under 200lbs?

Bruce Brody
What’s your opinion of Glucosamine vs. Cissus? And what was the other herb you mentioned for pain relief? You said it acted fast. Or at least faster than Glucosamine or Cissus..

John Laurinitis
I’m not sleeping well.. In fact I’ve never slept well since my 20’s. I’m in my late 30’s now, and this is really holding me back. What can I do beyond melatonin, warm milk etc?

BP TIP OF THE DAY: WHAT DID WE LEARN? A LESSON FROM THE ANDRO YEARS

Show Notes:

[7:12] What is your take on antioxidants?

  • 2 reasons that Rob used them so early on:
  • Mauro’s recommendation in his book.
  • They aided in Rob’s recovery.
  • Higher doses of antioxidants can become pro-oxidant in nature.

[14:10] Rob’s take on myostatin blockers.

  • Biotest had a seaweed extract that binded myostatin in vitro.
  • It did not work well in vivo.
  • Epicatechin can lower myostatin 19% by boosting follistatin.
  • This is not enough to give greater muscle mass.
  • Epicatechin is being studied from potential anti-catabolic effects however.

[24:25] Calisthenics for a 300+ lb young person.

  • Get barbell strong first.
  • Some lifts will be extremely difficult at that weight. Regressions are essential for this.
  • E. handstands for time instead of handstand pushups.
  • Bridging is a great movement.

[34:34] How to gain mass for a 16 year old “hardgainer”.

  • Super Squats by Randall J. Strossen.
  • He need to eat a lot, even if it is like a fat person.
  • It is easier to drink 1000 calories instead of eating 1000 calories.

[37:56] Glutamine glycofusion: what is the best time to take it?

  • Post workout or intra workout. Add protein or EAA to it.

[41:11] Alternative therapies for aches from getting older.

  • Cissus and Boswellia.
  • DDP yoga.

[44:00] At what age is it okay to use sarms?

  • Treat them as test, but take test first.

[46:43] Is there a lab that will analyze home made bone broth for nutrient content?

  • Look into SSNS, Eurofins, RL food testing.
  • They may work with you if you are trying to make a bone broth supplement.

[50:14] Glucosamine vs. cissus for pain relief.

  • Glucosamine has a longer track record.
  • They are both analgesic but serve different purposes.
  • Get a proper diagnosis first.
  • Boswellia serrata also works fast.

[58:10] fixing sleep issues.

  • There are two common problems that can greatly contribute to stress:
  • Money
  • Relationships
  • Shut down your electronic devices.
  • Try GABA and glycine.
  • Focus on a candle for 10 minutes.
  • Nasal breathing.
  • Sleepytime tea- chamomile.
  • Red strains of kratom dosed hours before bed.

[1:12:25] Tip of the day: A Lesson from the Andro Years.

  • This was the second golden era of supplements.
  • Some kids went way to hard on the methyl-1-test.
  • It was hard to gain a lot of muscle on some of these Andros because their strength required shorter un periods.
  • Be conservative with anything that you run.
  • Don’t waste naturally high test levels by jumping on gear too soon.
