SHR # 2539 :: The BluePrint Power Hour

Show Transcript SHR # 2539 :: The BluePrint Power Hour

Some of the questions answered:

Gene Anderson
You mentioned running out of glucosamine last week, then mentioned Boswellia again. How do these things compare to NSAID’s like Advil or Tylenol?

Terrence Taylor
I never hear you talking about greens type products. Do they have value, and if so in what way?

Bobby McCullough
I tried some hydrolyzed casein the other day and didn’t notice anything dramatic. I thought this stuff was supposed to be great for recovery, but it isn’t. And it tastes disgusting. Why doesn’t it work as advertised?

Scott Bovatt
I’ve heard you talk before about how much you like the 4 way neck machine. Why is that, and how much has your neck shrunk since not having access to it?

Jay Miller
So I was amused by your mention of dessicated liver last week. You seem to use a lot of “iffy” products like Ecdysterone, Dessicated Liver and Ginger vs. tried and true supplements like creatine, HMB or fish oil. Why is that so? It makes me wonder sometimes if you’re right about a lot of this stuff.

BP TIP OF THE DAY: THOUGHTS ON PERSISTENCE DURING TIMES OF ADVERSITY

Show Notes:

[4:10] how do joint relief supps compare to NSAIDS?

  • They are just as effective e for joint pain relief, but they take longer to take effect.
  • Glucosamine has benefits on cartilage beyond pain relief.
  • Bosweillic acids inhibit 5-LOX.

[11:00] Do greens powder have any merit?

  • Rob would prefer blending your own ingredients in a blender, sweetened with glycine.
  • He feels that there is merit to greens powder or capsules.
  • Make sure to buy organic to mitigate pesticide intake.

[17:20] Is hydrolyzed casein really better for recovery?

  • In theory, yes.
  • Hydrolyzed peptides absorb faster.
  • However, something may be getting overlooked, such as the oxidation rate of these peptides.
  • They are extremely expensive and don’t seem to work as well as EAA or synthagen in practice.
  • They taste terrible.

[31:23] Good alternative to whey?

  • Milk and egg protein.
  • Ironmind “just protein”.
  • Jarrow formulas optimal plant protein.
  • Pea protein- be wary of lead and iron levels.

[34:05] 4-way neck machine.

  • Iron mind’s “head strap for Hercules” is a viable replacement.
  • You don’t want your harness to break mid-set.
  • The machine allows for heavier loading.

[40:35] Why does Rob recommend “iffy” products, such as liver tabs, ginger, and ecdy, over “tried and true” supps like creatine and HMB?

  • What is so tried and true about HMB?
  • May times, confounding factors are found in studies on supps, such as HMB, whose effects don’t carry over into real life practice.

[58:35] tip of the day: Persistence through adversity.

  • Everyone has down periods.
  • Things will eventually get better.
  • Push through and mitigate losses so that the next up period will slingshot you to new highs.
  • Go on offense in other areas of your life that can be progressed.

[1:11:15] Carl’s once daily testosterone formula is releasing in 4-5 weeks.

  • It more closely mimics the natural rhythm of testosterone in the body.
