[00:00:00] Hey, hey, welcome back to another episode of Super Mario. Today's Tuesday the blueprint Powers going to start just a second with my co-host coach Rodriguez and we have a special guest joining us for the first segment. And that's coach Wade Johnson with some exceptional news. Keep you older guys knowing that old guy still Rock not going to [00:01:00] give any more away than that.

[00:01:01] I just want to mention if you have gut issues. You need to go to listen to yesterday's podcast with my Anonymous guests. We've been using LL 3 7. I did a show not too long ago with dr. William seeds from the international peptide Society about ll3 seven guys and gals. It's the real thing. It is changed my life.

[00:01:24] It has changed my gut. That's all I'm going to say. Listen to yesterday's show. And if you want to know the science behind it look for the show. I think it was two to seven eight or something like that with dr. William seeds where we talked about this amazing peptide that I promise you is going to look 76% of Americans claim to have gut issues.

[00:01:47] This is the peptide that's going to change the country. So check it out. Calling all blueprint Army fall in line. It's time for the blueprint Power Hour with Coach [00:02:00] Rodriguez on the Superhuman radio network.

[00:02:06] How you doing? I'm doing great. And I'm really excited about today's show. Yes, because we have the baritone in the group. How you doing coach Wade on well, and I'm really glad to be with you guys expect you. This is kind of like old times for me. Yeah, right when we used to do the round table discussion.

[00:02:24] So when we got it, we know what we should really plan on doing some of those again. We really should maybe some maybe we need to instead of just having it be us chat about different things. Maybe we actually devise. An agenda and hit that particular agenda, whatever it happens to be. You know, I'm for that.

[00:02:41] Okay the reason but the reason you're on the show today is because something Monumental has happened in your already illustrious career in strength to tell the audience where you're going and why. In May I'm not exactly sure of the date [00:03:00] because the calendar is really crazy this year in May. I will be Melissa and I will be traveling as part of Team USA with USA powerlifting to its Narita, which is I think right outside of Tokyo I'm speaking as if I know Tokyo Japan to compete in the.

[00:03:20] This year's ipf World bench, press championships, which is kind of a it's kind of new for me. I don't really do bench only stuff. And so it was kind of there's there's a back story. But but but to answer your question in May I will be representing our country for the first time in the ipf platform.

[00:03:41] So, you know, how did that even come well before before I go there I have to say something so, you know, I lurk on Instagram. And I follow you and ogre. And I regularly see you now benching 500 pounds plus and [00:04:00] without a shirt on I've if I remember correctly or did you have a shirt on it some of those videos?

[00:04:05] I don't remember now in some of those videos. Yes. I have a shirt on you. Okay, but I mean, you know, I think we all take it for granted when we look at you doing this. We're like, oh, yeah. Well, you know, he squatted 1140 back in the day or 1040 back in the day. But really this is I mean it almost gets overlooked when you do it.

[00:04:23] Like it's almost expected. Does it isn't it?  Well, it's one of those things where people forget. You know that I'm over 50 years old now and. Just by nature of how the sport has changed, especially in the last five to ten years. So has the training group and mine large lot of people now are not lifting equipped even you know, and when I came up in the sport and basically the entire the entirety of the sport, there's been some sort of equipment near app some sort of squat suit and so on.

[00:04:56] But there's been kind of a departure of that and the raw lifting is [00:05:00] really taken off and grown and become the become the biggest aspect of powerlifting and that's across the board, you know, regardless of federation. And so, you know, that is something I've had to adapt to in the training situation in the way we train and so I never you know, once I did the meat that I did in 2014 when I died it down to 308 and total Elite and I did that in.

[00:05:25] Apply then I figured that that would be the last time I would ever compete in equipment and so, you know, I had resolved myself to that I've moved on and did some Olympic weightlifting and and you know did strong man, you know and have had a good run at that as well. So this was all kind of an accidental thing.

[00:05:43] If you will, you know, there's a story behind that but it was not something that I ever expected to do again was to get into event shirt. Well tussle tell the story. I'd Rob wants to know how old you are. I. Remember if you were 56, I'm 53. I'll be 50 for this year. I'm sorry [00:06:00] to edit agency. Let's Okay.

[00:06:03] Okay. Well, I am known as as you heard aware of sometimes I will do things to motivate people that you know, I wouldn't say to intimidate them but to go hey, you know. You can't let the old man whip your ass, you know, and I will remind people of that and I'm a little bit different. You know, I I'm somewhat reserved on the show here, but in the gym, it's a different ballgame, you know, because I've got I've got some crazy crazy strong lifters.

[00:06:35] And I've got this giant of a man Mike Greg wits and he looks like a giant Viking and he is he is an enormous man. Yeah, I think I think I've seen him doing some amazing deadlift work. It's ridiculous that how strong of a puller he is. So one night. It was third on a Thursday night. We were declining and I'm I have two power racks that [00:07:00] are set up to decline and I'm handing off to one and.

[00:07:04] Struggling a little bit. Now. This guy is super strong. He has in the gym bench-pressed 500 raw paused it. He hasn't done that in a meet yet, but I suspect it that's going to happen soon. So super crazy strong raw bench, but you at this point in time. This has been the time frame is a little foggy.

[00:07:26] Probably probably June July. I think at that point I had competed in strongman Nationals. And so they they had about four hundred and five pounds for plates on the bar. And I just said hey leave it because he was struggling so and do not do this don't do this because I did it. I would never tell anybody to do this.

[00:07:48] So I said just leave it on there and I told Mike to get in to the back of the the power rack and hand off to me and I wrap my wrist and I did 15 reps with 405 with no warm [00:08:00] up and then I buy basically gotten his ass really hard about. Old man. Just whip him.  So he does his working sets and I said go ahead and load 500 pounds on there and I did a set of six with it.

[00:08:13] So a mid is another lifter another big big dude super strong guy. He won the equip portion of the super Heavies at the Arnold last year and is crazy strong. So he goes, let's see what you can do in the flat bench with a slingshot again. I haven't been in a shirt in five years. So I've benched 501.

[00:08:34] And that immediately this has all happened, you know because I was messing with Mike and trying to motivate him, you know and shame him into a bigger weight and Ahmed was like you got to do bench Nationals that's coming up and I'm like, I don't even have a shirt. Well long story short. Titan who sponsored me at different aspects of my career when I was doing the multiply stuff hits [00:09:00] sent me single Price shirts that were ipf approved to train in.

[00:09:04] I have long forgotten that I had them so amid went and dug in all my stuff and we started training I did about 12 sessions and I went to Scranton Pennsylvania and competed at USA powerlifting bench, press Nationals with know. But tations, you know, that's to be honest. And that's that's how that's that's how exactly well.

[00:09:30] How did you know? How did you do it that event? And well, it's one of those things where there were six of us initially that we're going to compete in two guys scratched. I didn't know them and you know didn't know who they were. So I was like, well at least for which was last year's winner and two former world champions and the the guy that won last year dropped out and again, I don't know why and.

[00:09:55] So I was like well if I get you know, if I get at least one good bench in [00:10:00] that's a metal, you know, and I'm trying to add cash a because I'm on the staff of the coaching staff of app Lyft and you know, I'm looking, you know anytime, you know, you win a strong man Nationals, even though it's Masters and then I Podium at a bench Nationals, you know, that's that's cash.

[00:10:16] Yeah, that's what I was looking for. Right? And so. Long story short I was able to be one of the guys and we'll the other guy bombed and that's that's how that came to be. So you actually you actually what I want. That's awesome. I didn't know that. Yeah, we went we went very conservative. I took the training shirts.

[00:10:40] I didn't even use a competition shirt and that's you know, the that's just how you know, the ball bounces kind of in the in that sort of Arena, you know, you have three attempts and you know, some of those guys are crazy crazy strong I make there's no false pretense here. I'm not the strongest [00:11:00] bench presser, you know in USA powerlifting it just the ball bounced my way and I went really really conservative.

[00:11:07] You know in my attempts because at that point, all I want to do is keep making attempts and make a good showing and then you know and get a medal and then it you know, I happen to to get lucky as well. And and I won so it just just winning that make you qualify for the Japan. That is correct. Wow, that is so frigging.

[00:11:31] Awesome, you know, so it's one of those things where you know, I'm Rob go did you I'm sorry. I don't want to step on Rob. Did you just say something Rob? Can we didn't hear you? No, I'll simply service when I heard about this way by I couldn't believe it, you know presumably for squatting a thousand pounds and competition you downshift maybe but instead you kept taking it to a different level and and I was sharing about power lifting Olympic lifting and strongman so at north [00:12:00] of.

[00:12:01] I'll say this for my money. You're the Bo Jackson of strength training. I like that. Well, that's that's really that's kind. That's very very kind. You know, I'm you know, it's one of those things that you do this long enough, you know, and you're able to stay healthy, you know that, you know, you just you keep digging, you know, you have endurance and you just hang in there and you know, the ball bounced my way.

[00:12:26] I will. I was as lucky, you know also winning strongman Nationals because it's not a sport, you know that I train full-time, you know, so is things kind of fill my way and and experience in that type of competition paid off and it and it paid off in this one as well. So I feel I feel really really fortunate, you know to be in this position.

[00:12:49] So cool now Melissa is Melissa competing also in Japan. No, no. No, she'll just this is kind of a you know, there's never a Time. Where I would just go, you know think hey all [00:13:00] just go to Jeff. Let's just go to Japan, right, you know, so that's you know, this is kind of a trip of a lifetime. So, you know, we're sorting out the financial aspects of it and trying to plan it and you know, so it's really, you know, I have flown to, you know, I've been far away as Belarus but I you know, Jennifer did all the planning on that to be perfectly honest and then when we were in Calgary last.

[00:13:27] You know, she helped me, you know book all that stuff. But Calgary is not that difficult to get to you know, there's not a lot of unknown obstacles there. I you know, this is going to be you know, we got you got to fly somewhere that flies to Japan and you know, and that's a fairly long flight and it's not cheap.

[00:13:48] So, you know, no and none of it is obviously nothing we do anymore is cheap. So, you know, we're sorting that out and trying to. To plan it all out and you know as I hear from the team [00:14:00] coaches and stuff. We we met, you know, where you know, we're making those plans going forward. I paid my my team fees my drug test fee in entry.

[00:14:09] And so, you know, that's got the ball rolling. Yeah. I think you're going to be really popular in Japan and I have in the back of my mind the idea for a t-shirt that I'm going to make for you. No, I'm serious. I just dawned on me. It just dawned on me. I'm going to I got a picture of you. I'm going to send it to Michael.

[00:14:25] I'm going to tell him what I wanted to do, and I'm going to send you the image because I think you're going to be wildly popular in Japan. I really do because your personality personification, you know, the the beard, you know, the whole thing the whole image. I think you're going to really be popular there.

[00:14:43] So that's just a hunch just a hunch. We'll see. We'll see what happens. I mean, I you know, the big thing is that I'm really training hard. I'm doing some things that are really, you know, kind of different for me and I've let Ahmed kind of you know take the driver's [00:15:00] seat in this because this is really his world.

[00:15:04] I've done single-ply lifting before but you know, most of my equipped lifting was done in X and I did most most of it in denim which is a lot more forgiving than the. Polly shirts, so I'm still you know, this is still very much a learning process and getting used to getting you know, the crap squeezed out of me when I'm when I'm benching.

[00:15:27] So in Titan has stepped up again P Delaney's and tighten support. They're going to be helping me out with equipment. So, you know, that's that's exciting. I mean to be at this point in my life and career and someone goes yeah. I mean, we'll make you some shirts. You know, that's I again that's.

[00:15:45] It's Way Beyond anything I deserve you know, and so it's really a blessing and it's exciting to be at this point in my career and and still, you know, hopefully be viable. Now we can't leave Melissa out of this because she just competed and she yeah, [00:16:00] it was really kind of a neat thing last year at strongman Nationals.

[00:16:06] She had a pretty serious injury from the car deadlift and had contemplated retirement, which I figured was was a short-term thing and turns out that it was what was the you think knowing what you. Well, she was in the car deadlift. She kind of got forward and so it was a lower back kind of sciatic IT band but into the glute and hamstring it was pretty rough and to her credit.

[00:16:34] She gridded out the competition and finish one another event and was able to place second but I think she was really really frustrated and disappointed because she really felt like she had a shot at winning and I'm going to tell you. There is nobody that trains harder she gets up at Fort literally our alarm Monday through Friday goes off at 4 a.m.

[00:16:57] And she jumps right up and I [00:17:00] will tell you I do not jump right up and and she gets dressed. You know once you know, once she gets out of the bathroom from beginning of getting dressed and getting ready, you know, the dogs take off with her and I get up and stumble into the bathroom and start, you know, trying to get myself together for the day.

[00:17:19] And so by the time I get down there because I sit at my computer and do you know some business things? I get down in the gym usually by 5, and she's ready to start. She's warmed up and done everything that she needs to so. There's a lot of times that she's training six days a week, you know due to schedule and the things that she wants to accomplish.

[00:17:39] So, you know, it's really a snug process and to her credit, you know, even in her mid-40s she gets up every day and gets it done. Yeah, no it's and so what happened to this this last of this last competition you guys just went to well she she went to a different me to different Federation. It [00:18:00] was the USPA.

[00:18:01] I don't really know much about them and I'm not even sure it was I think it was a state-level Titan meat and went for a lifetime PR Squad but was called on depth. It was a really close call, you know, and I covered that in the video that you were talking about off air. Each 159 that's kind of her Albatross lift.

[00:18:22] We went for a bigger bitch than we had scheduled just to give her a shot, you know at a bigger total but to her credit she did lifted at, you know, again after six months of you know, rehabbing and training the deadlift. She did lifted a lifetime PR of I can't remember the kilo exactly, but it was about 380 Point 381 ish.

[00:18:43] Wow, which is which is a big pull, you know, so so. You know, we're really proud of that. She really came back and showed some again grid is a big thing for her. And I think we'll see her on a power lifting platform again, and her lifetime goal was [00:19:00] to you know, eventually pull 400 and I think the, you know, the fire has been sparked again.

[00:19:05] She's looked at some national records and stuff like that in her age bracket, you know. Regardless of the results if it gives her the the fire to you know, pursue it, you know, then we'll keep digging and see where it takes her. So now when is this Japan trip? What is it scheduled? It is late May.

[00:19:23] I'm not exactly sure the date ipf bench worlds is two weeks long and I think the the front week is the unequipped which one of my other one of the litters that I coach Jody rice I believe is going to be on that team. And then we will the equipped lifters will be the second week. It's around the 26th.

[00:19:46] If I'm not mistaken in that area what can people do to help support your goal here. Well, you know, a lot of people were very gracious with the show and bought a t-shirt when I went to Calgary and it kind of got to [00:20:00] be a confusing jumbled up mess on my part and I think a lot of people had to wait on t-shirts way longer than I wanted them to and so.

[00:20:10] I can always buy shirts. And if the if people want to do that for you know, like we did 25 bucks and shipping they all they need to do is email me and when they come in and I have some back stock now, then I'll just you know message them or send them a PayPal bill or whatever they want to do. You know, I'm not really doing a GoFundMe thing.

[00:20:33] You know, I really, you know, people have been so generous to me so. You know if they want to give something to PayPal they can but you know, I would prefer that they they buy something so they have something from the gym if they if they want to support this trip. I mean it's you know again it's way more than I deserve and I really appreciate you know, the all the listeners.

[00:20:53] Or they have been I've gotten so many messages and stuff like that. It's it's pretty overwhelming when I made the [00:21:00] announcement yesterday that I had accepted the invitation. I you know, it was more of a thank you, you know to a lot of the people that have helped me in the past and and that's why I take well I tagged people until I ran out of the ability to tag.

[00:21:14] They wouldn't let me tag anymore people. And so people that like I went to high school with and I'm friends with on Facebook to have so many people respond again is you know, especially at this point, you know, Overwhelming I mean, I I never expected that kind of response. You know, I'm the in I'm not even sure how to respond to that, you know, and so the app Lyft team has been very kind and very generous.

[00:21:43] What is application. Is it an actual app? What is it is it is a nap and I'm on their coaching staff and it is an. The they have a database supported training application and it's a real interesting thing. And [00:22:00] basically it's a platform know where lifters can find quality coaching. Because there is a process there's a hole in like I was interviewed by the by the founders and then I had a phone interview with one of their main people.

[00:22:14] Dr. Cody Han and I but I was recommended by one of their coaches Aaron Thomas whom whom I spoke of before who grew up with my son Wes, but does Jennifer milliken's programming and so, you know, he recommended me they did some research they did some interviewing and then I had my phone interview.

[00:22:35] And that was kind of an interesting conversation because I gave them my CV, you know of the meats that I've done but I only used like National and international stuff and in the the national International coaching and I had. Honestly forgotten, you know how many of these meets I had done over a span of 20 years because I did my [00:23:00] first International.

[00:23:00] My first world me was WD F PF worlds in 1999. So, you know, it's. It's one of those things where you know, you work all your life. It's like your show, you know, I remember when you were talking about doing the show. We were standing outside Jeff Jim. I know you had brought the model if down to Louisville, right?

[00:23:18] Right, right. And so, you know, it's like, you know, you work your you work your ass off for 25 hours a day for 20 years and you know, and now you're this this is overnight success you work 20 years and no one knows you and then they learn about you. Think I didn't know about this guy yesterday. He must be an overnight success.

[00:23:39] Right? Exactly. Right? Right. So, you know, it's been a it's a it's been a really cool ride and I'm you know, I can't, you know, if it were to end after this and I couldn't complain you know that I'm going to try for it not to I'm going to I've got other things cooking, you know, but we'll see how this goes [00:24:00] and I'm going to I'm going to train hard and and do my best.

[00:24:04] You know to represent, you know our country, you know, and I and all of us older guys and the people like, you know, that listen to your show, you know, that's that's why I continue to do this. So real quick before we exit this portion of the show people who want to help you whether its buying a shirt donating money or whatever.

[00:24:27] Should they reach you on email? You know, you can email me a team ogre at outlook.com the PayPal addresses big TN to 90 at hotmail.com, but you can it'll get to me via team ogre but if you're if you want to shirt and I'll put up some pictures. We're working on putting that stuff on the website to add the over compound.com.

[00:24:54] And in and look for it on social media will I recently did an interview with [00:25:00] Juggernaut? I don't know if you saw that and one of the things that I was called by the internet trolls was white light Wade, so we made a white light weight t-shirt. So I'll have to shoot you a picture of that white white white.

[00:25:15] White light Wade. Oh wait, okay, because I was giving away he know it was my fault for certain High squats passing and stuff like that, even though there was three judges and so on and so forth, but but we did make that shirt. So anyway, you know, just having fun with that. That's the best thing to do with that is just have fun with it.

[00:25:34] You know. Yeah. Yeah. I mean everybody's entitled to an opinion so I'm going to sell it on a t-shirt. Haha. That's funny. If you have anything else you want to call Wade, it'll become a t-shirt. Just remember that the dress because we're just embracing it. So, but but I really appreciate you guys having me on Coach Coach Way a coach Rob.

[00:25:56] I'm sorry. I kind of. Pi [00:26:00] took this interview over but you have anything you want to close with they'll just to say way that you know, congratulations to both you and Melissa. I can't think of two better representatives for Country. I really Camp is awesome. Very very nice. You can put me down for at least two shirts and probably more.

[00:26:18] Well, I appreciate that. Thank you so much. I we're going to take we're going to say goodbye to coach Wade because he has to go back and work with the the Philharmonic Symphony over there and you know, but what people don't realize about weight is while he's down in there lifting and grunting and he's also a very gentle connoisseur of Fine Music.

[00:26:39] So there you go. All right. We'll talk to you soon. Okay. Wait. Alright, thanks for having me guys. All right, we're going to take a quick commercial break. We'll be right back with the regularly scheduled blueprint power our stay tuned.  Welcome back.  So I'll first blueprint power. Our question comes from Michelle.

[00:26:58] Hey bear.  [00:27:00] Who's been a longtime listener and supporter of the show? He says Rob are there any meds that might interact with synth engine? I'm trying to convince a friend to try it but he is wondering if it will mix poorly with anything. He is currently taking he sent the ingredient list to his doctor, but I wanted your two cents.

[00:27:20] Thanks so much for all you do and print that eclis you to Carl. You guys are the best. There you go. Well, you know, I have to be honest and say that we haven't conducted. In the analysis, so to speak of you know, whether anything in sent the gym would counteract or otherwise mix poorly with prescription meds with over-the-counter meds.

[00:27:43] Etc. What I can offer is my personal experience other, you know with other supplements and the feedback from other people that have used it some of which are hope you'll find helpful first things first off. There's nothing insensitive. [00:28:00] That speed you up or slows you down or otherwise causes an acute effect the way let's say pre-workouts or substances like fennel Boudoir crate top will.

[00:28:12] And that's an important point because even a smidgen of something like say, um be can really get you into trouble. You'll have these pretty potent on its own but it can be downright dangerous when it's combined with high doses of caffeine ephedrine and other stimulants the one acute effect. That you will get from suffragan often after just the first dose is greatly improved recovery from high intensity exercise.

[00:28:40] It dramatically accelerates wound healing and curiously makes existing injuries a lot better or in some cases. They're actually vanish and when that feedback started rolling in I'll be honest I was. It was quite unexpected. But of course welcome so we know it can be [00:29:00] taken with stimulants and pre workouts.

[00:29:04] God knows there are many that do that. Not one complaint have I heard from anyone using both? I also know a good many people including myself. Seventh taking it on days where I goes ephedrine caffeine multiple nootropics as well as crate time and phenibut absolutely no issues. One thing you do not want to do is co ingest any isolated amino acids BCAAs or even other essential amino acids with it now, although it isn't dangerous in the sense that yohimbe is it does skew the very.

[00:29:43] Precise ratios of essential amino acids, I spent years perfecting. Now. There are in mind also sent the gym isn't cheap. So with the best to play it safe and just not mess things up. Otherwise, I can tell you this I've used lots of [00:30:00] different stimulants nootropics on the like and it works just fine.

[00:30:05] There are no. Bad side effects to report now one product. I would ask you to steer clear of is X Factor or arachidonic acid.  Why that's a big question. So recall x-factors mode of operation. So to speak it's predicated on increasing. Information where is that the gym is all about mitigating it and to a larger extent recovering and repairing you faster to grow bigger and stronger at an accelerated clip.

[00:30:40] So I would be wary then of combining those two, but here's the bottom line and less your Co ingesting large amounts of. Amino, acids branched-chain amino nose or X Factor. I have only heard from people that sent the gym has performed well in [00:31:00] every other environment, so I hope it helps I'd be real Curious to hear the doctors opinions.

[00:31:06] Oh no. No, I'm going to tell you what the doctor's opinion is don't take it and I'm going to tell you why when I when I was diagnosed with my heart problem, and I decided that I was going to start weightlifting and I already lost some weight. I actually contacted dr. Swift who was my doctor at the time and I said and I said, you know, I bought these so he says we'll just bring him in next time you come in for a visit.

[00:31:33] I carried in with me.  a jug of creatine monohydrate. A protein powder by who's that can dump a Canadian company that used to be so popular supplement company huge supplement company anyway, so yeah MuscleTech and it was just basically whey protein. Whey protein concentrate and flavor and probably some xanthan gum or something like that.

[00:31:59] [00:32:00] That's all it was. It was just way protein juggle whey protein and a jug of creatine monohydrate. He looked at the labels it both of them. He did not read them. He turned it over. He looked at one put it down. He couldn't have read it that fast. He turned over the other one looked at it put it down.

[00:32:12] He says I wouldn't take these that's what he said. I would I would not take these he said and now. In his defense and in all doctors defense, right? It's like being an accountant saying no is always safer than saying. Yes right was saying yes implies if you do this, and there is a bad outcome. It's my fault saying no implies if you do this, and there's a good outcome.

[00:32:40] It's still not my fault. Yep. I was just wrong and a litigious Nation like the United States today. If you tell something to tell someone to do something and it's good for them. You're still safe if it's bad for them. Well, you told them but you know, if you if you tell someone, you know, [00:33:00] no. I wouldn't do this.

[00:33:03] It doesn't matter whether it's good or bad or whether they're right or wrong. They are still not taking a step into liability. And so this doctor is going to say no, I would not take this and he's going to site number one. The famous words of every doctor well supplements are not regulated by the FDA, which is the biggest.

[00:33:23] I wish I could curse on the air but it's really just the stupidest thing they say because all the drugs that are approved by the FDA hurt people. Anyway number one and and then and then he's going to say and it probably doesn't won't do anything for you. Anyway, I would I wouldn't take this so that's my guarantee that his doctor will say that or her doctor will say.

[00:33:45] My guarantee my guarantee next question comes from Rob Robertson. He says I was listening to be pH 2 to 8 6 about ibuprofen and how it can hinder muscle growth. Did you not [00:34:00] say in previous episodes that ibuprofen for males over 40 showed some benefit Plus?  Doesn't ibuprofen anti-inflammatory effect.

[00:34:10] Take place only after ingesting 800-plus. Well, well, well baby good catcher. He's absolutely right. There is some evidence ibuprofen can work for versus against you provided you're older and by older, I mean much older the steady. I'm referencing shows both ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Our anabolic in 70 year olds.

[00:34:38] So what happened was this men and women of 70 who do weight training? They say build up more muscle and strength if they use painkillers like ibuprofen and acetaminophen and that was those were researchers at Ball State. University as long ago as 2008 they reported that [00:35:00] what they did was they did an experiment with 60 men and women the actual Ages were between sixty and seventy eight seventy.

[00:35:07] I'm guessing being the mean. But the test subjects have a train three days a week right at the gym. They train their upper legs by doing leg extensions after 12 weeks. The researchers measured right the progress of their subjects one group took placebos, another took ibuprofen and a third took acetaminophen.

[00:35:30] The subjects took the manufacturers recommended doses. I don't know exactly what those are. But obviously it's easy enough to find them.  Basically what they're what they arrived at was this chronic consumption of ibuprofen or acetaminophen during a resistance training appears to have induced intramuscular changes that enhance the metabolic response.

[00:35:57] To resistance exercise [00:36:00] and this allows the body to add substantially more new protein to muscle. So this researcher, the lead one was amazed that this finding because in earlier studies the ones I referenced in the other questions people in their 20s showed less progress if they used ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

[00:36:21] In the painkillers lowered their skeletal muscle protein synthesis rate after a training session.  The big question though is this right? Why and to his credit trapped the lead researcher and his colleagues were honest. They basically said they didn't know what I can tell you. Is that in my opinion Kurt if you're going to use these things curcumin is a much better alternative, whatever negatives ibuprofen and acetaminophen have for young people and they appear to be substantial curcumin does not and as far as [00:37:00] oldsters go, you know, which would you rather be using a product known to be liver toxic?

[00:37:05] For a product known to improve liver function and beyond that curcumin enhances nitric oxide synthesis. It slows muscle loss. It drastically improves recovery and it reduces inflammation which. Is the underlying cause or exacerbate Saul known disease States insofar as what dose ibuprofen is effective personally.

[00:37:30] I think a lot of that depends. It's probably 800 milligrams for most people but I suspect as little as two to four hundred and others, you know, finding your lowest effective dose whether this is a supplement. Or an over-the-counter or prescription drug should really be your priority. So yeah, rob you were right.

[00:37:54] The reason I didn't mention it in that answer the other show was It was kind of outside the [00:38:00] context of the discussion if I recall correctly there were people in their 30s. So so the bottom line is this I would much rather see people using curcumin versus these over-the-counter painkillers. It's just it's a no-brainer in my opinion.

[00:38:18] So I want to address two things real quick. Yep. There are things that suppress inflammation.  like corticosteroids like NSAIDs that actually. Shut off inflammation and there are things that resolved Infamous inflammation faster. And those things are fish oil and tumeric with their curcuminoids and they're certain components in fish oil more specifically that literally have the name resolve ins and tumeric is a resolving because it doesn't suppress [00:39:00] inflammation.

[00:39:01] It resolves. It inflammation is the army of the immune system. The immune system is responsible for Recovery people overlook this fact and excuse me. So when you train hard and your muscles are damaged inflammation must occur. Start the ball rolling to repair but the job of inflammation. Let's say it's a it's one through 10 when it stalls at four five or six.

[00:39:37] This is when you end up with overuse injuries, and you don't have the repair and you don't have the growth that you looking for and to go back to arachidonic acid while arachidonic acid may start the process. It is not the real answer because the answer is finishing the process and so with that being said.

[00:40:00] [00:40:00] we can't look at at an anti-inflammatory drugs and or.  painkillers that work on inflammation the same way that we look at things that resolve inflammation. In fact, dr. Steve Beto. Who's amazing foot surgeon in Texas sent me a little note saying that, you know, be careful with your foot. There's a study that shows that using anti-inflammatory drugs during the bone healing process actually causes the bone to heal slower.

[00:40:39] And not completely so you end up with like a weak spot in the bone. And this makes perfect sense. You don't want to turn off inflammation. You want it to go from 0 to 10 and finish the job and and Adele Musa just wrote an amazing blog post. Maybe it's [00:41:00] why I've kept what muscle I have while I was in training for the.

[00:41:04] And that is that taking fish oil and curcumin can actually cause you to lose less muscle during long periods of not training amazing, you know, as you get older your body is inflamed all the time. So getting that that basil inflammation to resolve could be the answer to making gains. Yeah, most passive anti catabolic don't register but the combination of fish oil and curcumin is about as good as you can do and I take them every single day.

[00:41:44] I have the advantage of also being able to take SPM active which is a product made. By metagenic sand Eliza buys it for me, which is just it's a it's a distilled version reduced down to just the things that have been identified [00:42:00] in fish oil to be resolved ins. It doesn't affect your cholesterol doesn't if all it does is cause inflammation to finish the job and I mean it and that I don't care if you don't have a foot surgery people need to take that stuff.

[00:42:18] After training because it's going to speed up the recovery process. There's no doubt in my mind about it. I take it all the time after training. So there you go good information that you won't get anywhere else, but right here at the blueprint power stay tuned. We'll be right back with more questions.

[00:42:37] Welcome back tomorrow. I will be on Dave Palumbo's.  YouTube show.  and. Talking about LL 3 7 I can't talk enough about a body builders have distended stomach. They have poor digestion LL 3 7 could be the answer. I had a woman reach out to me today who listen to [00:43:00] yesterday show where I said could LL 3/7 help children on the autism spectrum and she is actually going to give it a try with the help of a doctor.

[00:43:11] I am so excited about LL 3 7 what it's done for me and the messages. I'm getting for people who are seeing results with it. I see I get nothing for promoting this LL 3 7 I have to pay for my own peptide just like everybody else does but it is 76% of Americans suffer from gut issues. This could be one of the biggest biggest.

[00:43:34] Opportunities for people in the United States who want to change their outcomes. This comes from Zachary Stubbs. What is the FNAF parenthesis u.s. Is that Air Force? I honestly don't know FNAF us. He says hey coach Rob quick question. It seems. Primatene tabs have been discontinued pulled from the shelves for some time.

[00:43:58] Now. I didn't know that [00:44:00] did you know of an alternate legitimate source to find F A Dream you at thank you a call for the hard dedicated work that you do and physical culture. You guys make a difference in the world. I salute you. Well, I'll tell you if trauma teams been told it's news to me as I literally bought three boxes of it just yesterday.

[00:44:21] Your other options at the pharmacy is Blanca although unlike primatene, which uses ephedrine hydrochloride. Rocket uses the inferior in my opinion ephedrine sulfate. Although primatene is by label. Just twelve point five milligrams of ephedrine per pill. It feels stronger to me than Brawn caves 25 milligrams of ephedrine sulfate.

[00:44:48] That's just me though. I do know others. Cooper fur blanket you can try both I suppose I can tell you that I usually get my primatene at Walgreens. Although I [00:45:00] by their generic equivalent AKA bronchial asthma relief, which isn't even nine dollars a box now even so for a box of 60, that is highway robbery on the part of big Pharma.

[00:45:15] I used to buy 250 pure. The federal hydrochloride 25 mg for under 10 bucks and it's not like ephedrine is some ultra rare hard to produce item It's Made in India Great Britain the United States the Middle East etcetera Etc. Well everywhere around the world. So. If you're looking for pure ephedrine hydrochloride, it can be done.

[00:45:45] If you know where to look where to look is a place called Neptune nutrition dot Co dot u k you will note the description speaks to a caffeine [00:46:00] vitamin B6 green tea excetera multi ingredient fat burner in reality. What you receive is ephedrine hydrochloride 30 milligrams per tab. No cross Tennyson.

[00:46:16] No caffeine nothing but pure ephedrine hydrochloride. Wow. Yeah note though that this comes from the UK and as such it's going to take a little longer to get through customs. If you're in the United States now, usually you have to sign for it, but it's well worth it and know this it is. It is your right to import it provided.

[00:46:42] You stay under the import limit. The the legal import limit is seven point five grams per month, which is an absurd amount. So I always order just 200 tabs at 30 milligrams of Pop. You got a total of six grams. Which keeps you how [00:47:00] much is it cost? How much does it cost? Because there's there's somebody on on Amazon and I'll tell you the price.

[00:47:05] How much does that cost for how many and how much?  200 tabs. At 30 milligrams of Pop I want to say was running me around 50. So there's there's a guy on there's a guy on on on Amazon. So I'm looking while you're talking right? They sell it at HEB they sell it at Walmart so you can get it at those two stores, but there's a guy on Amazon and it looks like it's a international company maybe and they have 60 count primatene tablets.

[00:47:41] You ready for this? Go ahead. How did in ninety nine dollars and ninety nine cents each. Oh, man. Wow, a hundred and two hundred dollars, like really like and it's got one star the customer review on it has one [00:48:00] star is says the this price is outrageous price gouging and medicine is illegal and I'll report this most of us need this medication to breathe this price gouging.

[00:48:10] Is not fair the that's way out of line. Yeah, I mean, it's just a stupid like what you know and 7 grams unless you're using it to make methamphetamine who needs seven thousand milligrams of it, but, you know be that as it may I got a caution you on a couple of other things. Okay. It is worth noting that you will still see several companies selling.

[00:48:35] Fedra efe phed ra versus the pharmaceutical ephedrine. So you're still going to see these ephedra based fat burners do not be fooled these products do not contain. Any amount of effective ephedrine alkaloids and thus are devoid of any stimulant or fat burning properties. Now, they'll tell [00:49:00] you other parts of a plant burn fat, but that is dubious in my opinion.

[00:49:06] They're using the name to sell it because don't forget that's what Herbalife got famous with they were the first company to introduce an ephedra based diet. Yep, and if they made literally hundreds of millions of dollars on that that ephedra based diet pill people would take it. I took it one day.

[00:49:23] I was in the alarm business. Holy crap. I didn't know what energy was. It was really great. It was really great really great. I actually prefer a Federer when I could still get it. I differ than most I guess because you know compared to straight ephedrine. It's got a much smoother rise and fall and energy level.

[00:49:46] There is no crash really associated with it. Especially if you parent with a natural caffeine, you know plant like guarana or: up [00:50:00] with it was often combined with such in those. Fat burners instead of straight caffeine now, there are several other synergists that work incredibly well with ephedrine.

[00:50:13] Although they're outside the context of this discussion. I will be covering them in next month's newsletter. So I would tell you how about it that because ephedrine really is that good it is proven to be safe and effective when used correctly and that's not just my opinion. That's according to studies conducted at a place called Harvard Columbia University and overseas to on a personal note.

[00:50:41] I used it damn near every day for the last 28 years, and I've got nothing but upside to show for it. Yeah. Yep. Okay. The next question comes from Mike Loomer. He says I've heard you talk about power factor training before what is it? And is [00:51:00] it worth experimenting? Yeah, you know in the early the mid-90s I came across the book power factor training was written by Pete Cisco and John little it was unlike every other strength training book.

[00:51:11] I have ever read because it was heavily predicated on math and math is not my strong suit, but you know, this was relatively simple math and it made a lot of sense in effect power factor training was the next logical step. For where Arthur Jones and Mike meltzer's heavy-duty training left off. It was like a penultimate version of their high intensity training the system correctly identified the three phases a muscle growth both being stimulate recover and grow.

[00:51:46] So I knew at that part of it at least was solid where Jones and Mentor left off though in so far as training to failure. Cisco and little mandated two important points number [00:52:00] one. They only had you lifting in the strong strongest range of an exercise. So strong range partials and number two. They had you calculate your power factor, which was the amount of weight lifted per minute.

[00:52:17] Okay those that was really the final. Brother you succeeded or failed now. It's true. You can generate greater overload of the strongest range for most exercises. So I knew there was the ability to that to and numbers are very hard concrete things, right? They don't lie and you can't fudge them. So I knew that was solid so with great anticipation then I don't know him and if I recall correctly of advocated, You know when a and the b session of about eight or so movements split between the two workouts and again with the strongest range of big compound movements being preferred.

[00:52:57] So I was on my way long story short [00:53:00] after about 12 weeks. It was all I could handle even with up to a week between workouts at one point for Recovery by joints just couldn't tendons and ligaments couldn't take it anymore my muscles. I would imagine they grew they did the I didn't experience any kind of dramatic muscle growth and I was visibly drained some progress sure, you know, there was but as a Training Method for life, it's not something I think you can use exclusively and with you know in have productive results eventually.

[00:53:39] Pizzas go when is on waivers static contraction tree and then in John little wrote a book called X reps as an arrow in your quiver. You should know about strong rains partials and use them but as a sole method for hypertrophy it just never stood the test of time even [00:54:00] today. I don't know a single person.

[00:54:03] Who uses that exclusively that should tell you something. It's rarely seen in gyms anymore. At least from the ones that I've been in. I don't know Carla people use it down there. They never heard of it before. So I feel like I just sounded like Oliver Hardy from Laurel and Hardy. I've never heard of it before.

[00:54:24] Wow. I never heard of it before know that surprises me. The book is worth a read. No question about it. And some of their math and their principles are very sound but as an exclusive method, you know, it's like the golf analogy. I always use you. Can't shoot your best round with just a 7-iron you got to have the whole compliment in there to do the best.

[00:54:48] You possibly can. Absolutely the next question comes from Larry Holmes in he says, where do you stand the nitric oxide stimulators arginine? Agmatine and the like are they [00:55:00] worth the money and do they really work well way back when co-founder of EAS that bird he debuted no.2, which was the original nitric oxide.

[00:55:13] I could have scarcely imagined it but it actually kicked off a supplement run comparable to creatine and the proof of that is you know, it's still going today. Those are still very popular product. Well, I think there are many much more important things. You should be worrying about on the other hand.

[00:55:31] You could spend your money on worse things. The original no.2 product was Arginine Alpha ketoglutarate slightly more bioavailable. Straight Arginine and that was the strap of Step Up the Ladder from other ingredients that came before later on though came the one that I like if you're going to use one and that would be citrulline.

[00:55:54] Okay, if you ask me that's the one that you should be taking six grams is the research proven dose [00:56:00] it pretty reliably increases performance in endurance athletes and it acts like time-release Arginine. And today I know agmatine is also popular on the no.2 Block, but in my opinion it's you know, none of these are.

[00:56:18] Huge ergogenic AIDS unless you're competing at very high levels in cycling. I think citrulline would cause an advantage there. You do get a nice pump with it in the gym. But another thing I want to remind you about when taking a no two products is how poorly formulated so some companies. Pre workouts are and you know, the story a lot of them almost all are laced with huge amounts of caffeine, which is a vasoconstrictor and works against things like Arginine Arginine alpha-ketoglutarate citrulline agmatine and all those there are movies pre-workouts to moral of the [00:57:00] story stay away from high dose of caffeine if you're taking a no to type products otherwise.

[00:57:06] Beet juice is probably the best natural source of nitrates along with deep red spinach extract that that's a lot more difficult to find but just simple beetroot juice does a nice job stimulating no.2 these no.2 products. They may give you a better pump, but it is mostly fleeting. And it's not you know, a marker of you're going to grow I can have you curl a can of Campbell's Soup and you know with enough carbs water and Reps you get a great pump.

[00:57:43] It wouldn't mean you would grow much muscle from that.  So I want to I want to put it into CC's here. Yeah, first of all, it was a good study done by the University of Kentucky about 10. Maybe 12 years ago that showed that [00:58:00] nitric oxide based supplements impaired calcium channel activity and contractile force of muscle.

[00:58:08] So the way we interpret that as it doesn't necessarily make you stronger Maxi make you weaker however at the same time.  If you if you juxtapose research on on blood flow. Training and you look at it from a standpoint of congesting the muscle and the upregulation of growth factors that occurs there may actually be some Merit to nitric oxide stimulators.

[00:58:38] if you look at the science on Blood Flow Restriction because nitric oxide stimulators actually cause. Muscle congestion and so you could say well Blood Flow Restriction Training causes muscle congestion up regulates growth factors. And you do see an increase in protein synthesis, even though you you can't you're not [00:59:00] you not necessarily a strong when you're wearing that that band and in fact, they even recommend not trying to lift heavy to protect because you don't want too much.

[00:59:09] Ischemia in the. Right and you juxtapose that over to what happens when nitric oxide stimulate his work and that's the key word work and we're going to come back to in just one second. There may be some value in actually training light like with the candle a can of Campbell's Soup and getting that pump and keeping it, you know holding the muscle contracted keeping that pump because then maybe some of the Blood Flow Restriction signs would be conveyed.

[00:59:40] In that environment, but here's the interesting thing.

[00:59:46] the original research on arginine.  As a nitric oxide precursor which by the way affects the process of growth hormone showed that the amount of arginine one had to take [01:00:00] in order to actually see the dramatic increase in nitric oxide was enough to give them osmotic diarrhea. I was going to say keep a shaman handy.

[01:00:12] Yeah, so so, you know, I I wonder how much people attribute pumps to that's naturally occurring and not from their nitric oxide precursor. So there's that right is that and and then the other thing is, what are you chasing? Are you a guy who is not interested in strength, but big muscles then nitric oxide stimulators May in fact be for you if you're somebody who wants to look strong but not actually be strong.

[01:00:46] Yeah, there's a place for them just like there's a place for Blood Flow Restriction, but if you're somebody who's looking to build. Inroads into neural muscular strength adaptation, then it might not be for you because it's been shown by the [01:01:00] University of Kentucky to effectively shunt control muscle contractile Force.

[01:01:07] So you got to get you know, you are you a power lifter? Are you a bodybuilder? Are you guy who at all costs wants to get stronger or you guy at all costs wants to get bigger. They are they are mutually exclusive if you are focusing on one over the other they are mutually exclusive.  That's the only thing I would throw in there to consider a lot of people spend a lot of money on them.

[01:01:33] I'm just not one of them well, and you pointed out something without wanting to do. One of the greatest things that will create a pump is having pre-workout carbohydrates. Yeah, like like I've never forget when I had David bar on my show years ago and he talked about that study. And so I tried it, you know, I tried taking dextrose before my training and I was like, holy [01:02:00] F these pumps are painful and a lot of those.

[01:02:07] Arginine products and a lot of these Advanced nitric oxide products a lot of people when they take them they take them with a pre-workout drink or something like that again. I say well what which is working. Is it the Pre-Workout carbs that were in the drink or is it really the nitric oxide precursor?

[01:02:25] So, you know it it's shifting sand but you got to pick you got to pick what you really want. What do you want to be most effective at you? Got to pick Chad Higgins says I'm a power lifter. Well, we know what Chad's going to pick right and I'm thinking about dropping some weight. Just don't drop it on your foot.

[01:02:41] You have to get two surgeries in one year than like I did. I saw a study where ketogenic diet help powerlifters lose weight, but not strength link given he sent you the link. What do you. Well, so I looked at the study he's referencing and in fact, you know, here's the headline low carb [01:03:00] diet for powerlifters weight loss without losing strength.

[01:03:03] So, you know on the surface that sounds good. But then you read past the abstract. So during three months the researchers have 14 power lifters and weightlifters eat is them, you know, the way they used to so the athletes were allowed to eat as much as they wanted. And they consume more than 250 grams of carbs a day now on another occasion the subject followed a low-carb diet for three months in this case what that means was they consume less than 50 grams of carbs per day compared to the usual diet.

[01:03:38] They lost a significant amount of weight 3.26 kilos, but among those lost kilos was to. Kilos of lean body mass. So what more than three-quarters of it and that decrease was statistically significant. [01:04:00] Then the study goes on to say the subjects did not lose strength adjusted for their body weight the subject seemed to be a bit stronger.

[01:04:10] Follow me know the keywords adjusted for their body weight. Here's my take here's the bottom line. I think extended low-carb ketogenic diets are not strength friendly. At least if you're talking about, you know, maintaining or increasing your current level of strength in the big three barbell lift instead.

[01:04:34] I would suggest periodic carbohydrate refeeds anywhere from 12 to 48 Hours given they rehydrate. Right increasing cell volume and the strength so, you know a little misleading on the headline and as we'll talk about the blueprint tip of the day [01:05:00] whenever you go into a diet, sometimes you can maintain or even increase your lower body strength.

[01:05:06] Upper body's a different story. A lot of people. I'm one of them are susceptible to losing strength when going on a diet and we'll talk more about that when we come back. Look at Rob taking us into the break. You got it brother and if you want to learn more about. And training and supplements and drugs and stuff that nobody else is talking about you can just go to Coach Rob register.com because that's the place to go.

[01:05:32] If you want to get stronger stay tuned. Welcome back to the blueprint power. Our the feature of the blueprint Power Hour is the blueprint tip of the day. What is that about today? Coach rub the tip of the day is there's always a way always. So longtime listeners are probably familiar with that saying of mind if there is always a way and I sincerely [01:06:00] believe that okay.

[01:06:00] You just need to look a little harder sometimes a lot harder, but it's there and I got a great reminder this yesterday as I perform. My second upper body workout after starting my diet little while ago so typically, So I stayed a little bit before the break a trainee can expect to maintain or even approve his squatter deadlift while diving when it comes to upper body stuff though.

[01:06:27] That's where strength loss usually shows up first on the diet. So I rolled into the gym yesterday I grab. One forties which I worked up to dumbbells for the flat bench and I came up a rep short of what I had last week and prior to this happening. I reliably was adding a rep every week or bit more weight.

[01:06:54] I tried it again to just to make sure it wasn't a fluke only to wind up with the same result. [01:07:00] So needless to say at this point. I am not a happy camper. But then I remembered my own Maxim. There's always a way and in fact it was right there in front of me the dip station. So instead of my primary pushing movement be in the flat dumbbell bench.

[01:07:19] I simply made the switch to the weighted depth and to my great surprise. I was able to handle some. Moderately heavy weighted dips for low reps surprised because I'm bone on bone in my right elbow with arthritis, but I was elated because the dip is a far superior movement in so far as building muscle compared to the flat dumbbell, press given.

[01:07:45] Greater MMA or neuromuscular activation. Okay, the highest levels of MMA are reached whenever you move your body and the weight through space the waiting for a weighted Dipper other being a [01:08:00] fine example, it's the same reason that pull-ups be pull-downs and the squat beats the leg, press every time I wasn't done however, and I was further pleased to find out I.

[01:08:15] Some feet elevated one-arm push-ups and here again. It's a superior movement was much greater nma versus the other movements that I had been doing now as my diet marches on and I lose more weight. It's only going to make those two lifts. What easier?  So it's working for me ditto for things like gorillas push-ups.

[01:08:41] And you know with my feet up on the wall, so instead of swimming Upstream. I am just going with the flow. Now. I still have a few tricks up my sleeve for my weighted movements and you'll be hearing more about that in the coming weeks. But I want you to focus on what happens here. Okay, [01:09:00] I initially encountered an obstacle that was threatening to set the tone for my entire workout and probably the week.

[01:09:07] What I came up short on those dumbbell presses. I was angry. I was frustrated and it was snowballing fast, but you know what I discovered.  What I could do and and the fact they were Superior muscle Builders. I left that Jim a happy man and the wide open road in front of me and so far as how much I can progress.

[01:09:31] I was really happy and it was all because. I believe them and found another way. If you're in this game for life, like I am these things are going to happen to you. You will suffer setbacks your strength. Will Plateau you will pick the wrong Training Method or Worse. You'll get injured. It's not a matter of if it's just went and I will categorically state that it is at that very moment that separates the [01:10:00] men from the boys.

[01:10:01] In other words, how much do you really know? How much knowledge is rattling around in your head that you have to draw upon the odds are slim that anyone's going to help you out. Okay, it's going to be up to you and only you to figure it out which brings me to my final Maxim. Another one information is power, you know years ago.

[01:10:27] I was reading Vince gironda stuff and he said, You said words to this effect the most powerful steroid you have is your brain and at the time I thought he was full of it, but he you know, given all the experiences that I've had since then he is unequivocally correct what you know, or don't know as the case maybe will make or break you information is power.

[01:10:57] So I would tell you. Keep listening [01:11:00] to shr and expose yourself to as wide a knowledge base as possible be relentless in your quest for greater knowledge invest in information for once instead of supplements because it really is what you know, and that can-do attitude that will make you. So it's just one of those moments yesterday there, you know, it was a real.

[01:11:32] It was a landmark moment. And I know the months and maybe even years ahead are full of great things for me and it was all because I had that library of knowledge in my head and I'm not done yet. You know, I'm sure there are other things that I can do that will play to my strengths now. Yeah, yep.

[01:11:56] You know what?  I [01:12:00] had two surgeries last year and I'm pretty much a one-man show. No pun intended, you know? No, I mean, I'm listening to what you say and I'm thinking to myself a lot of us are doing the hard work we are. Doing the things that make us Unstoppable, but we forget that we are and we get lost in the fact that where you know struggling and so on and sometimes it's just a matter of realizing that you know, you're actually doing it because when you're doing it, you don't think about it and you just feel like man.

[01:12:37] I feel like I'm working so hard and why is this so hard and then when you if you stop and you take inventory. What you've done in the past year and what you've continued to do and how you fought upstream and how you've accomplished and how you've overcome, right? You know, there are a lot of people out there on social media that create memes and videos about, [01:13:00] you know, motivation and stuff like that.

[01:13:02] And then there's the the rest of us who just put our head down. Show up for work every day put in the time like coach Wade said, you know 20 years and all of a sudden you're an overnight success that you don't recognize that you are that person. That's another thing say to look at yourself in the mirror.

[01:13:21] Go. Wow. I'm that person that keeps on pushing. I'm that person. That doesn't take no for an answer. I'm that person. That doesn't let it stop me. Right, and and I was going to say, you know, what way what way does doing is a classic example, he has been a powerlifter his whole life.  He decides to Branch out in the strongman into Olympic lifting and do other things.

[01:13:50] And look where this taken. You know, there was no grand plan. I don't think on Wade's part to do this know if anything. He's more focused on giving [01:14:00] back and supporting younger people but to my mind it's good karma, and it's the fact that he had a vast training library of knowledge up in that Noggin of his and he used.

[01:14:17] As you can see what's happened. Yep. Yep. You're right. You're right. So so applaud yourself. If you look back at the past year and go. Wow, you know what I've struggled. I've fought I've kept my head. I kept moving forward. I wouldn't accept defeat if that's you then then accept the crown of your hard work.

[01:14:41] You don't have to be. You know a social media Superstar. You could just be a quiet person who does the hard work that all these other superstars tell people you should do and then there's the rest of us quietly doing it. So applaud yourself.  Yeah, I have one other [01:15:00] item of note. Yes several years ago H MB free acid that we remember that.

[01:15:05] Yeah, and I got a lot of questions as to how they should they should I try this. And at the time but I think both you and I it was a resounding. No, you know, don't be Fooled Again. I even had I even had back then I want to say it was what's his name the muscle PhD that I had on the show talking about the study on hmb free acid.

[01:15:29] And Reviving it right hmb is made so many attempts to do something and it just faded away as like nod doesn't work not like creatine that doesn't work. And and I actually had why can't I think of his name right now, but anyway God is so many people's names in my head now, but yeah, Jacob Wilson, I think it was he wasn't I don't know if he was a PhD student at the time or not, but I think I Jacob Wilson on the show.

[01:15:54] Talking about a study that said no hmb free acid is the real thing [01:16:00] and where is it today? Well, where it is is this there was a study just published in December 2018 in the European Journal. Sport Science, which said and I quote if they looked at hmb and another Lucy metabolites, hikky no statistically significant between group or group by time interactions were observe supplementation with hmb free acid or the normal version failed to enhance body composition to a greater extent than Placebo.

[01:16:36] We do not recommend. Bees leucine metabolites for improving body composition changes in young adults. So folks there you have it. Hopefully you weren't taken in by it. There's a lot of bad science out there, unfortunately and we'll do the best we can to give it to you straight here. [01:17:00] Hopefully we save some people some money.

[01:17:02] Yeah, and you know what guess what also produces those Lucy metabolites leucine the right, you know, just eat high quality protein and plenty of it. Do you know what you know, I've been a huge fan of intermittent fasting for I don't even know how long eight nine ten years when I first started doing the shows about fasting and rodents being more effective than calorie restriction and.

[01:17:31] I decided after the Tammy nesland show that I was going to start going back to more bodybuilder type diet, you know, five six, maybe even seven meals a day if I can work my way up to that and that meant I was going to start having breakfast and holy crap, you know in the short time that I've been back in the gym.

[01:17:56] I look at myself now and I go wow. I am going [01:18:00] to be so much more muscular and bigger in 2019 that I've have been in years because having that high protein pulse that dr. Lane Norton talked about on my show when he was still at the University of Illinois. Yep, having it every two and a half hours or small meal with some complex carbs, like broccoli or asparagus having that every two and a half hours.

[01:18:28] Holy I can't wait to see my physique this year. I can't wait to see. That's awesome. Now today I am fasted because I'm not training. So I just what I do is I reduce my caloric intake by simply cutting out my first two meals my breakfast and my post-workout meal and then I'll eat the regular meals.

[01:18:45] I would the rest of the day, but right II was afraid that I wouldn't get my strength and size back after this surgery and I am literally I'm absolutely leaner. Because I died and so much [01:19:00] by accident during this before the surgery and after the surgery, but I am getting I'm past already where I was before I went in for the surgery and it's because of my diet it's because of that leucine pulse.

[01:19:14] It's because that quality protein every two and a half hours. Yeah, yep, no question about that and that that has been out there a long forever. And you know what? We that's the funny thing about us. We want to know what's new we forget that, you know, the wheel still works and it was you know what I mean?

[01:19:33] It's like oh, but the wheel isn't sexy. Yeah, but it's still works. You know, I forget we forget so there you go. Anyway, just congratulations to weyden. Melissa just couldn't happen the better people. Yeah, I know. I was actually thinking wouldn't it be cool to do a reality TV show of their lives?

[01:19:52] That would be awesome. It really would I mean get up at 4 a.m. The dogs the people come in and train, you know him having [01:20:00] his coffee and literally getting them to the barn squatting then going off to the the, you know, the Nashville Philharmonic and working with all these artists and stuff like that.

[01:20:10] I mean he's you know, They are always on the go. Both of them always on the go. Don't forget the pizza. Yeah, the most anabolic substance that in Bourbon if you ask wait, it's Bourbon and pizza. That's it. I coach good talking to you today, brother. Thanks for a great show. If your YouTube will see everybody tomorrow with more superhuman radio.

[01:20:34] Thank you.
