SHR # 2737 :: Suffer Better: How to Raise Your Pain Tolerance and Develop Your Resilience for Training and Life

Share

with Guest:  Jack Yee

One of the best predictors of success is your ability to withstand discomfort, yet most people possess a threshold for painful challenges is embarrassingly low. They have a hard time dealing with emotional and physical pain such as rejection, frustration, or even a hard workout. Instead of pushing themselves past the pain, they give up and often fall short of reaching their most ambitious goals. Having a low tolerance for pain will hold you back in life and in your training. It makes you more likely to constantly quit, preventing you from building the physique you want. This pattern of being overly soft is prevalent in our society and has worsened since the COVID pandemic started. If your threshold for pain continues to weaken, you will become vulnerable to falling apart. Read the book here https://shrnetwork.biz/suffer-better

Suffer Better: How to Raise Your Pain Tolerance and Develop Your Resilience for Training and Life

[5:44] We are living in a world that was created by weak men.

  • Society is losing its ability to push through discomfort and delay gratification.

[14:25] The feminization of men is a byproduct of greed.

[16:50] The role of physical culture in making tough men.

  • It is just as much of a mental strengthening as a physical one.

[21:00] Your training should have a positive effect on your personal life.

  • If you catch yourself skipping difficult times in the gym, you will eventually start to skip out of difficult times in life, leading to you missing out on personal growth.

[28:50] Some examples of how resilience in the gym crosses over into real life.

  • Raising your threshold of pain makes it more difficult to give up on those that you love.

[34:40] Allostatic load and resilience.

[45:00] Are resiliency and toughness harder to build if there are health problems involved?

[46:20] If you wait until you feel good to do anything, you will never get anything done.

  • Your emotions can be the biggest enemy that you have.
  • We can’t always control our emotions, but we can control our actions.

[47:40] Living life as a coward.

One of the worst aspects is that you stop growing.
