SHR # 2352 :: The BluePrint Power Hour

Show Notes:

[1:35] Carl incorporates the new tradition of telling a joke at the beginning of each episode.

[3:50] Rob’s update on rhabdo.

  • He is consistently doing bloodwork.
  • CK levels have been cyclically dropping.
  • He discovered a paper on training and CK levels.
  • There is great variability in the response of CK levels to training.
  • Myoglobin and lactase dehydrogenase are also released from training.
  • Sitting around and doing nothing does not help the issue.
  • Mechanical stress and metabolic stress (oxygen debt) play the biggest role in this variance.
  • Shorter rest periods have a greater impact on CK levels than longer rest periods do.
  • Upper body sessions have a larger impact than lower body sessions.
  • The single greatest factor in CK levels is the introduction of a novel stimulus (i.e forced reps and drop sets).
  • Nutritionally: Free form amino acids help to protect you.
  • Contrast showers also help (heat shock proteins help to prevent breakdown in the muscle cell.)
  • There are no qualifying CK levles for rhabdo.

[19:35] Tanning Pills?

  • Protects the skin from the inside out.
  • The only legitimate source is at bodybuildingsupplements.com. The product is called Bronze Organic.
  • Beware of imitators ( nutrientsupply.net)

[34:46] Opinion on training light?

  • It depends on the goal.
  • Occlusion training can show gains in muscle mass using only 30% of your 1RM as long as you are going to failure.
  • Light weight is also good for speed work.
  • Light is a relative term.
  • Light weights will increase sarcoplasmic hypertrophy while heavier weight increase myofribullar hypertropny.
  • You cannot train exclusively heavy or light for best results.

[46:21] Anything I can use to grow taller?

  • Do notfall for the somatostatin GH releasers (Serovital).
  • Glycine and GABA are effective for transiently raising GH.
  • The results that you will see from these aminos will be miniscule.
  • Fasting raises Gh
  • MK-677 raises the trough of GH release, but this is not similar to the pulsatile nature of hormone release in the body.
  • Real GH requires high doses in order to be effective for massive fat loss. This will cause unwanted side effects.
  • None of this will really make you taller.
  • Carl reccommends CJC 1295 with DAC and GHRP-6 dosed multiple times per day (100mcg)
  • If you get hungry after taking, back the dose down.
  • MK-677 seems to exhaust the pituitary.

[1:01:11] Opinion on massage?

  • Massage was the number one recovery method used in the Russian training papers.
  • It seems to lower CK levels as well.
  • The main deterrent is the cost of a massage.

[1:07:08] What is possible for a senior lifter?

  • Have high expectations.
  • Be a good steward to your joints and endocrine system.
  • It comes down to your willingness to set a goal and work toward it.
  • Make a large portion of your training bodyweight training.
  • Find friends that will not deter you from your goal.

[1:18:20] Blueprint tip of the day:

  • Make everyday count. You may not get another one.
