SHR # 2767 :: New Study: Does Strength Follow Muscle Size + Upgrade Your Brain and Body

Share

Guest: Dr. Jonathan Folland, Ph.D. - Dmitri Leonov

The debate of whether strength and muscle size are mutually exclusive has been waging on for decades. A new study clears this up once and for all. PLUS Harnessing nanotechnology to alter health status has been the promise for decades. Well it's here now. Learn more at https://shrnetwork.biz/taopatch and use code SHR to unlock your discount.

New Study: Does Strength Follow Muscle Size + Upgrade Your Brain and Body

[5:20] Leaner people look bigger.

[6:30] Everybody carries muscle differently.

[7:25] Strength is a different thing entirely.

  • Muscle mass can help, but CNS activation, rate coding, and other factors play into strength.
  • Muscle size explains somewhere around 50% of variability in strength of test subjects.
  • This becomes more apparent after several weeks of training.

[10:43]Professor Folland’s opinion paper.

  • Reviews the available literature.

[16:10] Is it possible to tease out hyperplasia vs hypertrophy?

  • Not easily.
  • Strength is more correlated with the amount of contractile protein in parallel. Regardless of whether those proteins are fewer large fibers or more small fibers.

[19:23] Muscle is a dynamic tissue.

  • It can stay around for a while after stopping training.
  • Previously accrued tissue can also be regained more quickly after losing it.

[23:30] What about agents that will increase fluid in the muscle?

  • Fluid makes a much smaller difference in strength on average.
  • Creating would be a good agent for this.

[26:00] Growth factors and BFR.

  • Helps to facilitate growth, but it does not provide as much neural adaptations as heavier loading.

[34:20] Volume

  • Carl touches on fascial stretching and training for time.

[38:00] The inherent tension under the curve from occupational work can lead to “occupational hypertrophy”

[55:30] The importance of neural activation.

  • It is very apparent in the first weeks of training.
  • Without neural activation, any new muscle fibers will waste away.

[1:00:05] Is there any evidence suggesting a style of training for hyperplasia?

[1:02:58] The role of TRT in hypertrophy in older individuals.

  • It definitely lends itself to being more likely to make gains after 65.

[1:08:00] Increasing TUT via slower reps.

[1:16:22] How did Tao Patch start?

  • The idea is not that new. It combines light therapy with acupuncture.
  • The technology was invented by Fabio Fontana 8 years ago in Italy.
  • It incorporates prism technology to reflect your infrared energy into the body as well as refract that IR into wide spectrum light.

[1:20:00] The spectrum going into the body ranges from IR to UV

[1:20:45] The differences in patches

  • The emotional patch utilizes more green light.
  • It seems to have use in ADD users.

[1:23:24] Proprioception

[1:27:27] Start, Pro, and Platinum

  • They differ in size and material, some of which give a wider spectrum.

[1:30:12] The patch is waterproof and doesn’t have to be removed for 2.5 years.
