[00:01:48]   A heartfelt eulogy in honor of Bud Jeffries.

[00:08:48]   Does Ginseng do anything or is it a complete scam?

  • Ginseng is the best know adaptogen, but it has a lousy reputation.
  • One Ginseng worth spending money on is Aged Korean Red Ginseng
    • Dried and aged for 6 years.
    • Rich in RG1 and RG3 ginsenosides.
    • Great pre-workout.
    • Quite expensive.
  • Keep in mind that it is an adaptogen and should be taken for weeks at a time to obtain optimal results.

[00:16:35]   Will going off TRT (testosterone replacement therapy), after a 3-year period, take me back to previous levels or will it be worse?

  • You are put on a TRT course for a reason, presumably for test levels being in a too low range.
  • If coming off the treatment, testosterone levels will not “bounce back”, it is most probably going to be even lower than before the treatment started.

[00:22:23] Is it necessary to take EAA’s during training if you can take a scoop of Whey an hour before training?

  • When proteins deconstruct into the different constituent aminos, they do so at different speeds.
  • Many proteins on the market that claim they're hydrolyzed, either they aren’t, or they contain so little, the practical effect is effectively zero.
  • Whey concentrates break down slower than whey isolate.
  • Although it's true that whey is a fast protein and aminos are in the blood between 30- and 90-minutes post consumption, EAA’s reach the muscle within just a few minutes after consumption.
  • Research show that EAA’s boost protein synthesis between 400% and 600% depending on when it’s consumed.
  • Bottom line – stick with the EAA’s pre, during or post workout and have a scoop of high-quality Whey concentrate within 30 minutes.

[00:38:32]   What is a good measurement in terms of HRV (Heart Rate Variability) for a 47-year-old male, or is it a useless measurement?

  • Coach Rob uses heart rate to gauge 2 things:
    • Waking resting heart rate to indicate the possibility of overtraining.
    • Measure work capacity and ability to recover from i.e., interval training.

[00:45:17]   You've been taking antioxidants since your early twenties. I find that hard to believe and know of nobody that age dropping dollars on things like green tea. Plus, if my math is right, it was the early to mid-nineties and stuff that really worked was coming out. Creatine, MET-Rx, Whey protein - I don't recall any authorities recommending antioxidants at that time either. What gives?

[01:07:39   Should a TRT value of 508 at 47 years old be something to be concerned about, or is it good enough?

  • A sick population is artificially pulling testosterone levels down and making them the new normal.
  • 380 is the new cut-off for hypogonadism in men, it used to be 480.
  • The answer to the question is very individualized.
  • Don’t focus too much on the values, quality of life should be the measuring stick.

[01:18:21]   Is HMB (hydroxymethalbuterate) helpful for muscle mass in 60 plus year old’s?

  • HMB is a metabolite of Leucine.
  • HMB has virtually no effect on muscle mass.

[01:35:22]   When should one take C60? Can it be taken while fasting or is it best taken with food?

  • You can take it in a fasted state, but
  • it’s best taken with a fatty meal to stimulate absorption.

The danger in assigning others responsibility for your health.

  • People have the tendency to off-load the responsibility for their health to somebody else.
  • Many people perceive their doctors as being the be-all and end-all.
  • Most people don’t realize how much power they have over their own health.
  • Individuals (living in their own bodies for years) have insights in many areas into their bodies, that no doctor could possibly have.
  • Most people stay sick even after all the tests, diagnoses, specialists, operations, and medication while a lot of people get rich off it.
  • You have the most motivation to be your biggest advocate and to get healthy.
  • Find a doctor that compliments you, with whom you can work together to make an informed healthcare decision.
  • People should come to the following realization:
    • You are responsible for how you look, feel, and perform.
    • Responsibility means work.
    • Think critically about things and ask questions.
  • It’s time for people to take back control over their most precious asset – their health.
