SHR Exclusive, Fadogia and Testosterone
[00:00:09] In 2006 Carl had the opportunity to interview Dr Toyin Yakubu, who at the time was a PhD student at the University of Ilorin Nigeria. He had a scientific paper published in the Asian Journal of Andrology detailing his studies on an extract used in Nigeria as a natural treatment for erectile dysfunction. What he discovered is that the extract elevates natural testosterone levels in a dose-dependent manner up to 600%. This interview led to the launch of several testosterone boosters which did not exist previously.
[00:01:40] Toyin talks about his area of study and then elaborates on his scientific study that was published in the Asian Journal of Andrology.
[00:02:38] Toyin explains:
- Fadogia agrestis has been used in Nigeria as a natural treatment for erectile dysfunction for many years.
- it is a shrub that grows about 1 to 3 feet tall.
- it is found in the northern parts of the country.
- the preparation he had to use to extract the active ingredients,
- was to get the plant dried at 40 degrees Celsius,
- grind it up into powder form,
- extract the active principal,
- and then made the required dosages he needed.
- Only the stem of the plant is used.
- It was found that the active ingredient was a saponin.
[00:04:45] Listen to a detailed conversation on the various results of the study – remarkable!
[00:08:43] What did you determine actually caused the rise in serum testosterone levels in in the rats? Toyin responds.
[00:09:36] Toyin describes the mechanism of action of the Fadogia agrestis that increased testosterone levels?
[00:10:52] Is it possible that there would be a point of administration that would become unhealthy because of the increase cholesterol levels to an unhealthy level? An interesting answer follows.
[00:12:08] Tests were also conducted on any possible toxicity on the Fadogia agrestis – Toyin describes the results.
[00:13:17] After the test subjects’ 10 day recovery period were completed, the testosterone levels did not fall back to as low as it was before the administration – Toyin explains why.
[00:14:18] Toyin talks about his planned future studies on Fadogia agrestis and there is some discussion on funding for these studies.
