Could Using Your Own Stem Cells for Arthritis Actually Cause More Harm than Good?
with Guest Dr. Elizabeth Yurth, MD
Osteoarthritis, we have learned, has more to do with inflammation than mechanical loading. Obesity is a driver of chronic inflammation and the severely obese and inflamed develop osteoarthritis in non-load-bearing joints like fingers and the cervical spine as an example. Stem cell therapy is being touted as a viable treatment. And mire and more physicians are opting for stem cells extracted right from the patient themselves as opposed to embryonic tissues, fetal tissues, and differentiated somatic cells sources. Is there an inherent potential problem when using the patients own stem cells?

Show Notes:
Could Using Your Own Stem Cells for Arthritis Actually Cause More Harm than Good?
[00:04:09] Dr Elizabeth talks about the original study to give some background.
[00:07:16] The discussion follows through to glucose signaling triggering cellular senescence.
[00:08:48] Dr Elizabeth joins in on the conversation on arthritis and stem cell replacement.
[00:10:00] Dr Elizabeth expounds on some of the sources of stem cells.
[00:13:10] The discussion turns to prolotherapy and sham surgery therapy and the fact that it only brings temporary relief.
[00:14:47] Arthritis and degenerative disc disease are all linked to elevated levels of interleukin 1 beta and interleukin 6 and Matrix metalloproteinases. Dr Betty explains how they treat their patients before they do any regenerative therapies.
[00:18:20] Dr Elizabeth replies to Carl’s question of is compartmentalization of stem cells in bone more protected than in soft tissue.
[00:19:00] She shares her view on the idea that Azithromycin could be used as a senolytic.
[00:22:00] Senescent cells accumulate with age and with trauma. Once you damage some of the pathways, these inflammatory traumatic events create oxidative stress that can create some senescent cells.
[00:25:05] Carl talks about the Human Optimization Academy (see link below).
Visit them, this is how you become your own advocate.
[00:34:14] Dr Elizabeth eloquently explains the process around extracting stem cells and isolating them.
[00:36:00] The discussion flows into the subject of Metformin and Rapamycin injected into the joint. As well as the use of it for killing of senescent cells.
[00:41:24] Dr Elizabeth shares her view on Growth Hormone and goes on to explain how they use a peptide called AOD mixed with hyaluronic acid for amongst others, cartilage regeneration.
[00:46:09] Follow the discussion on joint replacements and how they are sometimes done completely unnecessarily.
[00:50:00] Carl speaks about an experience he had with a fungal infection in his cornea.
[00:51:00] Dr Elizabeth talks about Pentosan Polysulfate being used for arthritis.
[00:58:19] Carl tells a riveting story about injecting substances into his own knee ?
[01:00:11] Dr Elizabeth tries to explain why she thinks it helped to alleviate pain and also talks on the way BPC 157 works to alleviate pain temporarily.
[01:04:22] Carl ends the show with a great analogy ?
