Some rigid back lifts that would train the core without encouraging movement:
Deadlifts
Squats
planks
To come up with a compelling theory of core strength, one has to offer an alternative programme, and I'm not sure Dr Rouse did this.
Perhaps Carl could use his new show with Dr Scott Conelly to turn his attention to people like Rouse and Mike Mahler with his 'hormone optimizations'.
