Steroid hormones like testosterone and it’s synthetic derivatives have been shown in studies to make the heart stronger. Supraphysiologic doses are tied to a variety of morphological changes to the heart that are detrimental. When a heart attack occurs having a really strong heart becomes one of those detriments. PLUS There have been lots of discussions about how the strict high fat low protein/carb keto diet the hormones that help muscle to grow. While this study is on a type of hormonal dysregulation – Agromegaly – it points a fine point on how growth hormone and IGF-1 are modulated by the diet and what that may mean if you are trying to increase both tissue turnover and protein synthesis.

Show Notes:
[7:00] The role of AAS in medicine and being sensible with dosages.
- They lowered ejection rate.
- Body builders need to do cardio and to maintain electrolyte balance.
- Taking time off can also increase ejection fraction rate.
[15:25] AAS morphologically change the structure of the heart.
- The walls become thicker and less flexible.
[19:40] The point at which AAS make a heart attack worse.
- They keep the heartrate up when the heart is trying its hardest to slow down.
[38:15] Low carb/keto diets’ effects on acromegaly.
- Too much GH can cause joint crowding. It is that effective for re growing cartilage.
- This diet inhibits the liver from converting GH into IGF-1
- Reduced IGF-1 rom 1.1 times the upper limit to .83 times the upper limit.
