In light of Vyleesi being approved by the FDA for Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) in pre-menopausal women its time to revisit the science behind PT-141 (Bremelanotide). This peptide is the only legitimate aphrodisiac that activates libido and arousal in women. It also works in men in higher doses than those used in women. We will discuss all aspects of use of this peptide and any unwanted effects.

It is a 10 amino acid sequence.
Discovered by extracting the aphrodisiac sequence from melanotan.
The melanocortin system has the widest spectrum of human health effects.
PT-141 is injected subcutaneously. Nasal application caused problems in blood pressure.
The FDA has approved its use in pre-menopausal women.
This is probably because PT-141 cannot override the lack of sex hormones in post menopausal women.
There are multiple benefits of women starting HRT early.

[20:20] ARe the studies using equine androgens skewing the recommendations for HRT?

Yes. There is a lack of studies on true individualized HRT.
If done correctly, HRT is cancer preventative.

[27:43] Dosing of PT-141 for women.

There is a lot of variability in dose and duration.
1-3mg with 1.75 mg being a pretty reliable dose.
Effects can last 2-72 hours.
It can take 45 minutes to 1.5 hours for it to kick in.

[31:40] Does skin pigment play a role in onset and duration of the effects?

Maybe. Darker skin means more melanocytes for the PT-141 to act on.
Baseline dopamine levels probably play a more direct role.

[36:25] Could melanotan II be used to treat Parkinson’s?

[38:55] PT-141 is not going to give you an uncontrollable libido or turn you into a sex fiend.

In rodent studies, it actually made female rats want to have sex with their preferred partner.
It does have the sides of nausea and flushing/headaches.
