Show Notes:

80 Year Harvard Study Reveals the Key to Healthy Aging; Carl's Thoughts

[00:00:00]   We want to believe that the key to longevity and health are these tangible things that we can touch and manipulate. Carl, however, has a different view and by the end of the show you will have some solid steps to follow in order to achieve the most profound effect on your health and longevity.

[00:01:18]   If you commit to it, your life will change. The circumstances in your life may not change, but your acceptance of your life will change. The joy in your life will change.

[00:01:34]   The study, called The Crimson Men’s study back then, started in the 1930s and was sponsored by Harvard School of Medicine. Carl explains how the study was conducted and shares some of the details of the study.

[00:04:20]   It is now called the Grant Glueck study. The study subjects who all

  • appeared to be aging the best
  • seemed not to have the diseased states that others had
  • seemed to have a really superior quality of life and their perception of the quality of their life,

All had the commonality of healthy relationships with a spouse or a large family or even a group of friends.

[00:05:02]   Carl shares his view of a good relationship. It is being in a relationship where you are compelled to love the other person unrestrained and whatever they do to make you feel that way.

[00:06:19]   All the different extrapolations that they have done from this particular body of research shows healthy relationships. Carl has a slightly different opinion, tune in!

[00:09:13]   We talk about transgender sexuality all day long, but love seems to be one of those words that we are cautious around it.

[00:09:45]   Carl discusses the show he did with Tom Bilyeu – remarkably interesting!

[00:11:06]   Carl suggests that it is the people who have the largest circle of people they love freely, that have this amazing carryover when they say they have great relationships. The more freely you love, the more opportunities you have to feel that the more often you fire hormones like oxytocin etc.

[00:11:13]   Carl argues that when we hear people talk about their relationships, we are really talking about the quality of their opportunities to love that other person or persons.

[00:11:54]   Carl shares how this theory is evident in his own life.

[00:13:27]   Often think about someone you love. The more you cultivate it, the faster you start to feel it and the deeper you start to feel it. You will actually have an ability to feel that faster and deeper as time goes on. If you shut people out that you love, you are just hurting yourself.

[00:16:50]   If you are severely depressed right now and you are lying in a bed, close your eyes and think of a child, a spouse, a parent, a favorite uncle, or a close friend in school. Think of somebody that you have actually felt love for, even if the seismic shift in your depression is a hair, it is still showing that it works.

[00:17:30]   So this is the exercise:

  • Everyone can do it, and you can do it frequently throughout the day.
  • It does not take a lot of planning.
  • Actively and consciously think of somebody you love.
  • Think about how you love them.
  • Think about how it feels, and you will feel it.
  • Just think of that person that you love, and it will uplift the way you feel.
  • It will uplift the way you feel about your life.
  • You will be honing a really good habit of feeling joy and love quickly.

[00:18:20]   According to research from the Grant Glueck study, these people live the longest.

[00:18:52]   We read a lot of books on health and longevity, when is the last time you read a book about love? Try Blinkist for condensed 15-minute segments (see link below).

[00:17:13]   The social construct we put on openly loving and the potential embarrassment of being that way, is our downfall and it keeps us from doing something that we are innately designed to do. So, love recklessly!

[00:18:00]   When you love somebody, you are the one being rewarded by the action of you loving. If things do not work out, you still got something good out of it. You still got the opportunity to love somebody.
