John Romano

WARNING: Some curse words were used that may not be appropriate for children. The first Open Season On Men episode of the year. Why do people fail? This feeds right into the New Year Resolution phenomenon. How to create the short list of goals is one important step. But at the root of your success or failure is an interesting. It's your willingness to suffer.

SHR # 2450 :: OSOM: Identifying Things That Need to Change and Changing Them for 2020

Show Notes:

[3:53] Identifying what needs to change is a learned art.

  • This is the most important aspect of progress.
  • It may not be the actual pursuit. It could just be the means to get there that needs to change.
  • Your efforts should be concentrated. You can’t do it all at once.

[9:09] The process of determining what is worth your time.

  • “Am I willing to suffer for it?”

[16:18] Prioritize.

  • Pick one big goal and break it down into steps.

[22:19] Does John use meditation?

  • Not in the traditional sense.
  • He does spend a lot of time quietly thinking.
  • Walking and driving with no noise.
  • He leads a tranquil life by design.

[26:48] Do not bite off more than you can chew.

  • The average person would do better to start earlier and go at a slower pace.
  • Setting unrealistic goals is setting yourself up for failure.
  • The industry promotes the thoughts that unrealistic goals can be accomplished in no time at all.

[32:07] Some people are prone to fail because of past successes that were more easily accomplished.

  • The journey gets a little harder progressively over time.
  • You can’t escape the “groundwork” process.
  • It could be folly to equate your value to some things.
  • It comes down to what is important to you: “Do I really want to suffer long enough to achieve this goal?”

[48:00] Veganism: If there were no social media, veganism would not be a movement.

[49:06] The dad bod.

  • The dad bod is a representation of a guy that is taking care of kids and offers no threat of leaving.
  • No woman is truly more attracted to a flabby guy, all other things being equal.

[57:50] You are not qualified to determine if you are in “beast mode”.

  • To be honest, it doesn’t matter anyway.
