SHR # 2343 :: Meet Our Super Humans: Lenora Colarusso

Share

The salient characteristic of a true Super Human is they don't accept circumstances as outcome. They don't wear their defeats on their sleeve as justification of failure. They pick themselves up, dust themselves off and move forward. This is Lenora's Super Human story.

 Show Notes:

[3:41] Lenora was born in New Jersey.

  • She was one in a family of eleven.
  • At 2 years old she developed spinal meningitis, which affected her hearing, vision, and heart valve.

[11:20] Lenora recalls her experiences with a brother whom was a Vietnam veteran and suffered from PTSD.

[19:20] She was sexually abused for a year and a half by a family priest.

  • She ended up marrying at age 21 to escape from the life she was living.

[36:50] Lenora also struggled with bulimia from age 16-22.

  • She started out anorexic.
  • She recalls passing out several times from purging as well as being hospitalized for electrolyte imbalances.
  • Emotional instability and mood swings also stemmed from this behavior.

[42:17] Bulemia actually prevented her from doing drugs or alcohol.

[43:04] At the age of 19 Lenora was in a car wreck.

  • This cracked her skull and crushed her facial nerve.
  • The injury was severe enough to prevent her from moving her face. Sweat, tear and saliva production were also severely affected.

[49:43] Lenora was told that having a child would be a miracle, but she ended up having 5 children.

[56:10] How Lenora balances her drive with being calm.

  • The goal is to balance your nervous system.
  • Our nervous systems are routinely in a sympathetic state from constant stressors.
  • Lenora uses breathing practices and yoga to drop her nervous system down to a para-sympathetic state (rest and digest mode).

[58:18] What is prana and how do we manifest it?

  • Take a walk, get some sun, and get fresh air.
  • Live.

[1:03:35] How does Lenora live now?

  • She lives off of the grid on 17 acres.
  • She wakes up around 6 a.m. every morning and meditates.

  • She will then check her emails while sipping on organic black coffee.
  • She gets out in nature and will occasionally go for a run.
  • She does a gratitude practice that emphasizes gratitude for what has happened as well as what will happen.
  • She enjoys coconut oil, hemp seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, greens powder, and pea protein isolate.
  • Her diet resembles that of an ovo-vegetarian.
  • She encourages others to only make or eat food in a loving state. Furthermore, she does not eat food that was prepared by an angry person.

[1:25:50] Even good things can be abused.
