Dr. Elizabeth Yurth, MD
The #1 reason people contact me about peptides is asking if there are any that can treat depression. Now I can say yes. . Treating depression is not only difficult but often doesn’t work at all. Up to 30% of those prescribed SSRI’s say they didn’t work. Ever notice some people NEVER get depressed? Not just hiding it well, but seriously never get depressed? That may be due to the elevated expression a peptide known as Spadin that literally makes them immune to depression. Now you may be able to leverage this peptide to solve your own depression problems.
Show Notes:
[9:39] Spadin
- It is an endogenous peptide that blocks TREP-1 recpetor.
- Lack of spadin leads to upregulation of this receptor.
[11:30] Electrolyte balance
- Potassium dysregulation affects this receptor.
- Spadin’s effective life is short.
[13:56] Nootropic effect of Spadin and the various treatments for depression.
- Spain use Increases BDNF production and improves hippocampus neurogenesis.
- Anti-depressants take ~ 5 weeks to work.
- Electroshock therapy can work in ~30% of subjects but can damage memory and cognitive function.
- Ketamine also has dangers to it.
[19:09] PE-2228
- Kicks in fast and can be a rescue method for those with onset depression. It also has a lower list of side effects compared to other mainstream methods.
[25:36] Transcranial stimulation.
- Does have success in many users.
- Low side effects.
[27:18] PE-2228 bolus dose could cause lethargy.
- There is little risk of lethargy if you stay under 400mcg/ day.
- However, everyone will have different tolerances.
[46:38] Does endogenous spadin production correlate with mood/ depression?
- It’s probably more of a receptor sensitivity/ number issue.
[48:44] Is PE-2228 used for bipolar depressive episodes?
- It should help, but Dr. Yearth isn’t 100% certain about it.
- Could be used with CBD as an adjunct.
[50:26] what about sexual performance anxiety?
[51:56] Diet- vegetarians suffer greater occurrence of mental issues than those that also consume meat.
- B12 was accounted for.
[53:48] Copper and zinc balance and the vegan “euphoria” are addressed.
[56:17] The Mediterranean diet decreases risk of depression.
- As always, there is a duality of its effectiveness.
[1:02:45] seminal fluid quality is determined by proteins.
- Could there be a potential antidepressant quality
Spadin is found in seminal fluid.
